The first question has a maximum response length of 150 words; the other three have maximum response lengths of 300 words. Applicants must respond to all four questions. The questions are: 1. I included one collegiate example, and graduated over 5 years ago. I don't think it matters, in all honesty, so long as the participation was meaningful to you.

What I did was list down all the activities/professional affiliations I have participated in SINCE college, and then afterwards picked from them the top 5 that helped support the overall package that I wanted to present to the admissions committee. I don't think they have to be the most recent activities, but rather focus on the most meaningful ones (as stated in the application question). I think it's more important to show that you actually learned something from the experience and was able to apply it in the present.

I went to one of these when I was home for the holidays and it was a great way, as others have said, to get to know about SOM in a casual environment. I think one of the best ways to get to know if a school is a right fit for you (besides visiting campus, etc) is by speaking to as many students as you can. They can give you insights on their day-to-day life, their classes, what they like and dislike about their school -- and you can see if any of what they said resonated with you. I'd highly recommend going to one in the next few weeks if you can And OhDenny, I'd tell my friends to go hang out with you in Raleigh, but everyone I know there goes to Duke

Hey all, it's the last weekend before the application deadline and I'm barely halfway through my SOM essays! Having some trouble interpreting the second essay prompt "What will you contribute to the Yale SOM community, and how will being part of it help you extend your professional vision?" so was hoping to get people's input on this. So initially I interpreted this as a two-part question - Why Yale? How do I add to the community (in terms of diversity, professional and personal experiences)? For "Why Yale" part I was going to talk about the integrated curriculum, small class size, and parent university brand name/network. But now I am having second thoughts about whether talking about the curriculum itself is somewhat veering off-topic, given that the topic really asks for how you being part of "it" (referring to SOM community) helps your professional goals. Am I reading too much into this? What do you think?

I think you're on the right track overall, but talk about why those things will help you/are best for you. I definitely did alot of "Why Yale" in my essay, but each thing I mentioned somehow tied to my career goals. For the "what will you contribute" piece, that's a bit more straightforward. You certainly have to have done your research to answer this, but it seems like you know why you like Yale, just make sure why you like Yale also ties in with what you want to do with the rest of your life.

"Why XXX school?" questions are really about your career goals and how the school can help you get there. It's a small community so they want to make sure you have a unique contribution.

Just submitted for round 2. In the end I think these are my best essays so far. Really enjoy the concept of the differentiated curriculum and look forward to hopefully receiving an interview invite. Good luck to everyone else applying.
