Manhattan Prep's Value Proposition

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I recently completed my Manhattan Prep Live GMAT Course with Pedro Ledesma and I highly recommend it for anyone seeking to score 700+. Manhattan Prep’s value proposition is that they combine amazing in-person teaching with by far the most useful and helpful online trove of materials. Furthermore, the structured nature of their curriculum is incredibly helpful in breaking up the daunting task of studying for the test into manageable pieces. I could not be happier with my experience and my results, and with the increasingly competitive nature of MBA admissions, I highly encourage any prospective MBA candidates to use Manhattan Prep to attain the best GMAT score possible.

Great Instructor, Great Resources

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I had a highly positive experience taking a GMAT prep class at Manhattan Prep on Wednesday evenings from March to May 2017. I came in with little familiarity with the GMAT's format as well as a poor understanding of the level of effort necessary to prepare for the exam. Manhattan Prep did a fantastic job of acclimating me to the exam's content and providing excellent resources for preparation.

The most impressive part of the class was, however, the instructor, Marcus Hedahl. Marcus has an exceptional grasp of the GMAT's topics and does a great job of coaching students through the content effectively. Even more impressive, Marcus brings energy and engagement to the class despite its three-hour runtime at the end of the workday. There was never a dull moment over the course of the nine-week class.

Marcus helped me better understand what score range I could reach by test day. Initially, I was happy with the 80th percentile I was getting on Verbal in practice exams, but Marcus encouraged me to push for the high 90th percentile. After putting in additional work on Reading Comp and Critical Reasoning, my Verbal score on test day (44) definitely went a long way in bringing my total score up into the 700s.

I was also really pleased with the wide array of resources- both online and printed- that Manhattan Prep included in their 9-week class. In the final weeks leading up to test day, I used the online video lessons to refresh on earlier topics. I also used topic-specific practice question sets to drill hard on weak points.

Thanks to Manhattan Prep's first-rate instruction and excellent resources, I went from prep scores in the mid-600s to a 730 on test day.

Course Manhattan Prep GMAT Private Tutoring

Instructor Joe Lucero

Location Washington, DC USA

I was very impressed with Manhattan's class and private tutoring services! The books were detailed and helpful, and Joe did a wonderful job identifying the best way for me to make up points and truly excel at the sections I was good at and still improve dramatically in the ones I did not. I would recommend 10 times out of 10. Worth the cost every time. I also took the 9-session course earlier on as well and Joe did an excellent job of getting the most out of the whole class and framed the material in a way for each student to get closer to their desired number

Highly Recommend MGMAT Course

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

The Manhattan GMAT course is suitable for any learner, whether you're totally new to the GMAT or have taken it beforehand. I personally took the course a second time. It had been 2 years since I had took the course the first time around (after which I scored a 700) and I knew that I wanted to not only brush up on the topics but also build on my weaknesses. (FYI the course is at almost a 70% discount if you take it again).

Joe's teaching style was incredibly clear and structured. Never during the course did I feel confused by Joe's explanations to the answers of various problems or the approaches to them. In fact, he was so super clear that I'd often hear Joe's voice in my head guiding me through problems on my practice exams and my actual GMAT.

Oh and the interact virtual lessons on the MGMAT site are amazing. I watched them again the week leading to my exam. Super helpful.

I definitely think this is the best course out there. I saw growths of 80 points during each of my courses (620 to 700 and 700 to 740).

Highly Recommend

I'd highly recommend Manhattan Prep, and specifically Marcus Hedahl as an instructor. I improved over 100 points from the 600's into the 700's from the beginning of the course to test day in a little less than three months.

Manhattan Prep has the GMAT down to a science, without a question. (Not to mention, the customer service is incredibly professional, responsive, and all-around very helpful). Specifically, Marcus knows the exam backwards and forwards, and has tips, tricks, and invaluable insights into how to approach the exam, which I imagine are unparalleled among other prep companies. He also makes each class fun, lively, and engaging, which makes a real difference with a 3 hour class after a full workday. He's patient with everyone in the class, and has really great advice on how to approach various question types, common mistakes, study habits, and generally anything at all related to the test. I really can't speak highly enough of Marcus.

I would recommend focusing less on strategy books and more on practice problems, but as far as prep companies to use, Manhattan Prep is undoubtedly the way to go.

Bumped up score by over 100!

Course Manhattan Prep GMAT Private Tutoring

Instructor Joe Lucero

Location Washington, DC USA

I originally took the Manhattan GMAT 9 week course; very disappointed by that experience. My score did not improve and I was left very frustrated by the experience. However, I came to realize that I need more personal attention, so I gave Manhattan GMAT another chance and signed up for private tutoring. Joe Lucero turned out to be a Godsend, as my score began to steadily improve. Quant was my weak area, and he provided countless tools and strategies that helped bump my score up significantly by the end of our time together. I am so glad I took the time and money to continue at improving my score - the result was an increase from 620 on my first practice test to a 700 on test day. Thanks Manhattan GMAT!

Course Manhattan Prep GMAT Private Tutoring

Instructor Jamie Nelson

Location Washington, DC USA

Jamie was a terrific tutor who really tailored her approach. I was having trouble with probabilities but was strong in algebra, and she worked with me to funnel my algebra strength to decode probability. Equally important, she made me confident in my general test-taking strategy so even if I was stumped by one question, I could deploy smart strategies to make an educated guess and move on. I took both the class and some private tutoring with Jamie. Highly recommend private tutoring with Jamie if you can swing it - great results at a faster speed. I got a score in the 700s.

Gotta Put In The Work

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I started the MGMAT 9-session course in September 2013 and took the exam in August 2014. To be frank, I didn't really start studying until ~July 2014. The punch-line is this: you MUST do the homework. While I will say I benefited from the class, I did myself a huge disservice to not put in the hours WHILE I was taking the class. That said, the MGMAT books and web system are so strong that I was able to refresh much of what was taught in the class, and advance beyond. Wait until you're in a position to truly dedicate several months, then take the course, and plan on taking the exam a few weeks later. Good luck.

Great Program

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I had not taken a standardized test in ten years, nor had I really done any quantitative work since my freshman year of college. My first practice GMAT reflected that; I didn't finish the quantitative portion at all and scored a 640 overall. By the end of the Manhattan GMAT class, I was scoring mid to high 700s on my practice tests, and scored a 760 the second time I took the actual test. I had a rough week the first time I took the test, just a few days after the end of the class) and was not satisfied with my score, so I retook it after studying the class materials for another month, focusing in on my weak points. It is a very comprehensive, well-structured, and effective program. If you need a thorough review, take this class, do the recommended homework assignments, and use the practice tests to identify specific types of problems where you are weak.

Manhattan GMAT

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I took the Manhattan GMAT class starting in the Fall of 2011. I definitely recommend this class.

In the class sessions, you’ll learn strategies for answering every type of problem on the GMAT. This kind of information is hard to learn via self-study, and I see some of my peers struggling with the GMAT because they didn’t take the class.

Manhattan provides everything you need to learn the concepts. It is up to you to make sure you master every problem type.

The secret to acing the GMAT is to MASTER every problem in the GMAC Official Guide. Manhattan has the OG Archer, which breaks down the Official Guide by question and sub-question type. Going over every single problem and then re-reviewing the ones that you missed was the secret to my success. Also, you have to take every practice test available – 6 Manhattan tests and 2 official GMAC tests. Review each test thoroughly, even the problems you answered correctly.

My practice test scores went as follows:

610 (Manhattan)
640 (Manhattan)
650 (Manhattan)
650 (Manhattan)
650 (Manhattan)
690 (Official GMAC)
720 (Manhattan)
700 (Official GMAC)

Official Score: 740

My practice scores shot up once I had mastered most of the OG material. Taking regular practices tests is also crucial so that you get a feel for your testing strategy. If I had been able to get to the OG quant and verbal supplements, I think I could have done even better.

Good luck to you all.
