One more method

0.35 represents what percent of 0.007?

Adjusting the decimal

350 represents what percent of 7?

Divide by 7

50 represents what percent of 1?

Answer = 50*100 = 5000% = E

This is a good Idea... :)

Plug in the answer can be the another approach.

0.35 represents what percent of 0.007?

A. 0.05%
B. 0.5%
C. 5%
D. 500%
E. 5000%

We might also try plugging in the answer choices.

We can start by writing "0.35 represents what percent of 0.007?" as "0.35 equals what percent of 0.007?"
Or "What percent of 0.007 equals 0.35?"
Or just: _____ of 0.007 = 0.35

First note that 100% of 0.007 = 0.007
So, we need a percent that's GREATER than 100%
ELIMINATE A, B, and C

Try answer choice D:
500% of 0.007 = 5 x 0.007 = 0.035
No good - eliminate D

By the process of elimination, the correct answer is

0.35 represents what percent of 0.007?

A. 0.05%
B. 0.5%
C. 5%
D. 500%
E. 5000%

let say the percentage be x

so,

x% of 0.007 = 0.35

(\(\frac{x}{100}\))0.007 = 0.35

0.007 x = 35

x =\(\frac{35}{0.007}\)

x =\(\frac{35000}{7}\)

x = 5000%

Thus the best answer is E.

Here is another method that you can use to solve such type of problems.

100% of a number = number itself
Start formulating in this manner and proceed further step-by-step.

100% of 0.007 is 0.007
1000% of 0.007 will be 0.07
10000% of 0.007 will be 0.7
Therefore, 5000% of 0.007 will be 0.35

5000% (E) is the answer.

0.35 > 0.007, the percent has to be more than 100. Eliminate A,B,C
D means 5 times, try it and we get 5*0.007 = 0.035, we are 10X smaller. E is the answer
