(A) So far this seems correct - we can keep this on hold and check for others
(B) Incorrect - This changes the tense to present continuous tense which is unnecessary and in comparison to A, A is better
(C) Incorrect - The infinitive "to occur" doesn't fit here
(D) Incorrect - Changing the comparison word from "than" to "as" is incorrect here - the sentence is comparing quantities, so "than" is correct
(E) Incorrect - Changing the comparison word to "as" is incorrect. Plus the verb "occur" is not correct for this sentence.

Correct comparison with correct verb tense.

The sentence should read: "more than three times as many cooking fires occur due to the improper use of gas-powered grills as those occurring due to the incorrect handling of solid-fuel powered grills." This maintains parallel structure and clarity in the comparison.

The correct option is D) as those occurring.

The correct choice is D) imo.

The sentence structure requires a comparison using "as" to parallel the phrase "more than three times." The correct form is "more than three times as many... as those occurring." This maintains parallelism in the comparison.

as many as

Therefore, A, B & C are out.

E) as occur would be incorrect. We need a noun/pronoun for comparison.

D) as those occurring is correct. We have "those" for comparison.

D is the correct answer.

Was not positive on this one because the sentence itself felt a little clunky, but I think E

To simplify the wordiness, I replace 'the improper use of gas powered grills' with x and let's run through these



A) than those that occur
B) than are occurring
C) than to occur
D) as those occurring
E) as occur

A - more than three times as many cooking fires occur due to x than those that occur due to the incorrect handling of solid-fuel powered grills -- we don't need to refer to those again because we are still referring to the cooking fires from the first part of the clause

B - more than three times as many cooking fires occur due to x than are occuring due to the incorrect handling of solid-fuel powered grills -- really mixing tenses here with 'occur' and 'than are occuring' which makes it sound ongoing

C - more than three times as many cooking fires occur due to x than to occur due to the incorrect handling of solid-fuel powered grills -- the to here does not make sense with the sentence

D - more than three times as many cooking fires occur due to x as those occuring due to the incorrect handling of solid-fuel powered grills - again, we have the those issue

E - more than three times as many cooking fires occur due to x as occur due to the incorrect handling of solid-fuel powered grills -- I might use than occur, but as occur here keeps the tense the same and doesn't introduce any of the same clunky wording

we need correct idiom as many X as Y

for this reason A, B and C are wrong.

A) than those that occur
B) than are occurring
C) than to occur
D) as those occurring....................Changes the meaning
E) as occur................This is correct.

IMO OA should be E

A) as mane...than is incorrect construction
B) are occurring is incorrect tense. It means that the fires are currently occurring as we speak
C) to occur is not appropriate to use here
D) those correctly refers to the fires. 'as' is correctly used
E) 'as occur' is not parallel, nor does it fit with the rest of the sentence.
