680 Q51 V30

Question

Just took the test 6 hours ago.

For verbal, as a non-native speaker, I have always had a hard time during preparation on all topics especially SC. But the real test was quite a breeze with super easy RC passages. It's weird that second RC and third one, which I get immediately after finish the second RC, are almost connected story with little change in tone and direction of the passage. This help contribute for me to be able to finish the verbal part on time without rushing for the first time ever.

Quant has been so easy that I have 30 minutes to spare at the end. This is quite depressing considering I got very easy questions in a row from Q1 to Q18, signaling to low score. Very few questions are deceptive. Most are easy, short and straight forward type of questions you will find in mid part of OG quant review book. This disappoints me though because I expect much more and I don't like when GMAT as a test grading on a curve, not as a test grading on number of correct marks, is too easy because one mistake could send score to even Q49 or Q48 if there are too many test-takers who can get full score. I think I could understand some people getting frustrated by low Q score even if they feel they can do almost all of them but 3-4 mistakes on such an easy set of questions like this can ruin their chance on even getting Q48. That is I prefer loads of difficulty questions with low penalty for mistakes than loads of easy ones with high penalty.

Congratulations on the Quant score, a 51 is a very impressive feat.

It is also interesting to hear you take on the question difficulty, I am curious how other test takers with a strong quant skillset see this point.

Very interesting to see that first 18 questions seemed easy on the new format with 31 questions in quant. So Im starting to think, if Q50/51 level questions start showing up only after the first 18 questions or so, and if you get all of them right.

There are very few difficult questions for the whole test in my opinion. Or maybe partial possible explanation would be the kind of questions shown in the test become more non-native friendly with shorter length of each questions. Also, the style of questions become more align with the type of Thai middle school math questions I used to ace during my teens ( I'm from Thailand btw). but I still think level of difficulty is kind of lacking though. For example, I would expect each questions after the first ten to be at a level like "Between 250 and 2000, how many integers can be divided by 3 and 7 but not by 5?" or could be even harder . But instead, I still got much easier question like " Between 10 and 100, how many integers can be divided by 7?" even at around 15th question. Most of hard level questions in GMATPrep are harder than most questions in my test.

I think I make a mistake on one deceptive DS question though. A trap is set up specifically to take those with high quant skill but will be do able to those who like to plug in numbers lol
