A certain train traveled from Station A to Station B. Was the train's average speed on the trip less than 110 km per hour? (1km = 1000m)
(1) The train's average speed on the trip was greater than 25 meters per second.
(2) The train's average speed on the trip was less than 30 meters per second.
IMO B
Sol.
1.speed i kmph= (25*60*60)/1000=90. this mean that the avg speed is greater than 90 but is it less than 110? we dont know for sure.. it can be 91 or 92... or 150 kmph. so its insufficient.
2.speed in kmph=(30*60*60)/1000=108kmph, and this is certainly less than 110 kmph so this gives clear picture that the avg speed is less than 110.

Let the distance be 110 km = 110,000meters.
Statement 1: The train's average speed on the trip was greater than 25 meters per second.
(Let the train is taking maximum time at the minimum speed of 25m/s)
25 meters = 1 sec
110,000meters = x sec
X = 4400sec
1hour = 3600 sec
Yhour = 4400 sec
Y = 1.22 hour
So the train will take the maximum time of 1.22 hours for 110km.
Speed of train is > 90.16km/hour
It can be 100km/h , 110km/h, 150km/h (Not Sufficient)
Statement 2: The train's average speed on the trip was less than 30 meters per second.
(Let the train is taking minimum time at the maximum speed of 30m/s)
30 meters = 1 sec
110,000meters = x sec
X = 3666.666 sec
1hour = 3600 sec
Yhour = 3666.66 sec
Y = 1.01 hour
So the train will take the minimum time of 1.01 hours for 110km.
Speed of train is < 108.91km/hour
It will be always less than 110km/h (Sufficient)
