The Sentence is written in form of clause+comma+ noun modifier form.
A - Which incorrect pronoun
B - correctly modifies the clause
C - changes the meaning.
D - same as a
E - Incorrect ,which, also causing ...needs a verb.

Verb-ing modifiers must make sense with the subject , but here Ruben itself is not causing the deterioration in grade rather deterioration is due to painting classes

You right that Verb-ing modifiers must make sense with the subject but it also modifies the action of that same subject in the previous clause.

Here Ruben had painting classes and that action is being modified by verb-ing modifier causing.

Imo, Verb-ing is modifying clause here not Ruben.

Correct answer must be (B) for the highlighted errors in other options...

V-ing modifier modifies subject as well it also describes results..

Here because of painting classes daily result is his grades drops....so correct answer is b.
