I am debating on applying to LBS in R4. This would have been my 1st choice school as I want to work in Consulting (Oil&Gas focus) and potentially move to Corporate O&G in future.
I have 5 years experience as drilling engineer in Canada and would have been pretty confident in getting in and may be get a scholarship in R1/R2. But I am not sure now. I am shooting for Insead Jan 18 R1.
Most of the placements for Insead students with just English language skills seems to be in UK/Ireland anyways (am I wrong?). So, my reasoning was to apply to LBS as it is one of the schools with special no cap visa.
Does anyone have advice or experience with R4 admission/scholarship?

I believe it says somewhere on the LBS website that R3 is cutoff for scholarship. You'll want to check that though.
Fe questions: You really sure of getting into OnG consulting from LBS? Can you elaborate a bit on the research you've done so far? Can you please help me understand the "no cap visa"?
I did heavy research on both these schools and somehow I missed these details (I'm also from OnG background). Hence, I'm just curious.
Coming to R4 vs R1. I think it's a no-brainer. Apply to Insead in R1. You may apply to LBS R1 later. You'll have your LBS result too before the session starts for insead hence you can choose if you make it to both.
Feel free to PM me in case you wish to have a discussion. I'm myself curious to understand from you some of the pointers you've mentioned
