At a certain company during Year Y, exactly six company employees transferred to the accounting department from another department, and exactly four employees transferred out of the accounting department to another department. Also during Year Y, the company hired some new employees for the accounting department, and some accounting-department employees left the company. At the end of Year Y, there were exactly five more employees in the accounting department than there were at the beginning of the year.

For this company's accounting department during Year Y, select for Newly hired and for Left a number of newly hired employees and a number of employees who left, respectively, that are jointly consistent with the information provided. Make only two selections, one in each column.
The question deals with four set of people related to accounting(A) department:-
Within the company itself
  • four transferred out from A
  • six transferred in to A
Results in two extra employees in A....(i)

From out side of the company
  • Left: say L left A
  • New: say N joined A
Results in N-L extra employees or L-N lesser employees in A...(ii)

Overall
FIVE more employees, so two from (i) + N-L from (ii) = 5
N-L = 3

Look for options that fit in for N and L, so 5-2=3 gives N=5 and L=2

Say Accounting had 10 employees and Marketing(Another Department)= 10 And total=20
6 people transferred from marketing to accounting making the sum of accounting equal to 16 and 4 people left from accounting to marketing making the sum to 12, so we know in start we had 10 and 5 more people were there from start so in the end we have 15 accounting people, so 2 people would have left and 5 people would have joined to make a sum of 15.
