Been away from my desk for a couple days, but received a phone call yesterday afternoon to welcome me to Booth's MBA class of 2013. Congrats to the admits, and good luck to anyone disappointed with their decision today. Keep your head up, keep grinding, and you'll make it happen.

Long time lurker here. Missed the call from the adcom member... I am traveling outside the country and was in a meeting when they called. They left a voicemail saying they have some "good news" to share. Will call them tomorrow. I was waiting all day for the call but ended up missing it. The wait was one of the most excruciating experiences I have had in a long time.

I was really nervous most of the day but kept calming myself by thinking "everything happens for a reason". Please don't lose hope. Good luck.

Noob question : Considering the zillion waitlists, is there any hope for R2 applicants? Thanks.
You'll certainly be considered before the waitlists. In my opinion.

I'd say it's probably a level playing field. I don't know why admissions would give preference to someone just because they applied on a different date. I think we waitlisters are essentially just R2 applicants at this point.

So what happens if you are waitlist candidate who doesn't make the cut in R2? Does that mean that you get dinged or do you just remain on the waitlist?

In my opinion, it means that you get dinged. This is mentioned in the waitlist letter with the following sentence.

While we hope to enroll as many waitlist candidates as we can at that point, the possibility does exist that some students will continue to be on the waitlist into the next application round.

A couple of quick clarifying points for your WL:

* You are considered alongside other applicants in each round.
* You can be admitted, denied or remain on the waitlist through R2, R3 and into the summer.
* If you are WL and DO NOT INTEND to go to Booth (e.g. you got your admit to some other school "up north") take yourself off the list and give someone else a chance at their dream. Don't be an ass and try to collect as many admits as possible. No one will ever care and you won't either in about six months.

Thank you rhyme. Can you please clarify whether Booth expects us to send in additional material or not? The waitlist letter isn't very clear on the matter. It states that the additional material is "welcomed", but doesn't sound necessary. Do you know anyone who got in without sending any new material?

I combed through last year's thread for some answers - looks like you can really do either. Someone got in by sending in an additional reco and lots of updates, and someone got in by doing absolutely nothing. My best advice would be to send in a reminder within the next few weeks and keep them updated once or twice before the R2 decision date.

Question for the admits, when do you have to submit your deposit and accept your admisison offer by?

Booth has a weird 2 deposit process. The first deposit of $1,000 is due with your acceptance on 2/25 and a second $1,000 deposit is due by 6/3.

This really puts me in a bind. I really like Chicago and they offered me a significant amount of money but the HBS admit weekend is 2/24-25. Pretty much that means I need to make a call on Chicago before even getting a chance to meet potential classmates at HBS. Kellogg's acceptance deadline is in early March which seems much more reasonable.

Well, I guess you could submit the $1000 deposit and go to the HBS admit weekend. If you decide to go to Harvard, you'll be out of $1k, but in the long run that's probably not that big of a deal.
