after harvard and wharton dings...booth is my hope...atleast got an interview..

I heard that R1 admit weekend attendence was high this time and that number of fee deposits has increased...Does this mean fewer offers will be made in round 2?

That could put R2 applicants at a unpredicted disadvantage

I think I also read that they moved up the deposit deadline...So yes, there might be less admits, but this also implies more waitlist conversions.

If they move the deposit deadline up, then more people will accept an offer because they have less information from other schools. And since the yield of school doesn't change much from year to year, a bigger portion of those will withdraw as they receive more information from other schools...hence more waitlist conversion.

Although, I don't think the increase in deposits could really be that significant. Every school says that their applicants are increasing in quality, number, etc. The year over year change is not really significant. Over 5 or 10 years, yes it's possible, but not in two consecutive years.

Take what you hear from schools with a grain of salt...mostly, it's just a way to hype the school up.

Is Anyone having trouble with scheduling an interview?

I sent my interviewer an email last Friday, right after I got an invite but did not get any reply after 2 business days. My interview is scheduled on Thursday, Feb, 24th. But I haven't got any confirmation, booked the flight to or accommodation in Hong Kong.

I am thinking that I would not have my interview by the deadline, Friday, Feb, 25th.

I also could not arrange my interview. I was in NYC last week and they could not find any interviewers for me because of the holiday weekend I think everybody went on holidays.

I am an internation candidate and they dont offer interview in my country and it is almost impossible to arrange my trip to any of the european locations offered by Booth in 4-5 due to visa issues

So I am left with phone interview. How bad is that? am I screwed?

Make sure that you directly e-mail the interviewer at the address provided. Do not use the online system to try to send an e-mail and schedule an interview. My interviewer did not receive anything until I contacted him directly at the address that was provided.

At the same time, I strongly suggest that you call up admissions too. They helped me expedite contact with the interviewer. This 25th is one deadline you probably dont want to miss!

Hello Everyone... finished my interview today... boy what an experience..

When I left the Alum I was mortified...thought I just screwed up big time..

Man ...he kept interrupting me in every question...and when I started a reply he would move on... even took a slight dig at my high School and College..even though they are rated very high in my state he said he never heard of them... think I kept my composure through most of it untill the last question on failure at work place unraveled me... he kept probing and sand bagging me until I had no place to go... at one point I literally threw up my hand (not in a dramatic way). after that he quick jumped to his exp and the interview ended abruptly...

there was no way to get through to him..even made a coupla self-effacing jokes that were really funny..but all I got was a cold acidic stare... I did get in a some really good points and was able to stay fairly focused till the last Q... but am a super angry at myself for not catching his drift and that it was an all out stress intv...Gaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Anyhow..my friends think i am over-reacting... but i definitely do not have a good feeling about Booth...

The only thing to cheer me up... another phenomenal school further North in Chicago, called me for an intv after waving it off earlier...hope that turns out better...

Good Luck to the people yet to intv... My advice comes from one of my favorite movies - Untouchables ->
never stop fighting until the fight is done.

Well I harnessed some of my anxiousness (and anger at W) and tried to update the spreadsheet...looks like I found quite a few applicants who hadn't been added or updated. Well over 50% invite rate in this R2 pool...

It's interesting that this is at least the 3rd instance where someone has posted about their bad experiences with a messed up alumni. Needless to say, even though I still think very highly of the school and what it has to offer, these reports (and my own interview experience) have somewhat tarnished my overall impression of the school.

Am I reading the R1 stats properly? 86% of R1 GMATClub applicants were interviewed?

Cookiesn... I Don't think the alum is messed up..he was super nice to me when I met about 4 months back at a chicago meet... but this intv was deninetely a stress intv... he was great a n warm both before and after the intv... however during the intv he was taking me to task... anyhow my frustration comes from the fact that i w as not ready for a tough intv...and I should have known better and stayed alert when I saw him interupting me so often.. but I was so engaged in my answers that i did see him pulling a carpet under me..

Anyhow its just a caution note to ppl out there... Booth intv it not always a nice wet kiss that I most people talk about... they can put u on the spot... So be prepared for the worst..

I did not and have not touched R1. You are right though in terms of what it says. The problem is the Unknown w/out interview group (the ppl who just vanish after saying they submitted) doesn't seem to exist and we need that group to have accurate stats. The numbers are artificially inflated. ::sigh::

If they move the deposit deadline up, then more people will accept an offer because they have less information from other schools. And since the yield of school doesn't change much from year to year, a bigger portion of those will withdraw as they receive more information from other schools...hence more waitlist conversion.

Although, I don't think the increase in deposits could really be that significant. Every school says that their applicants are increasing in quality, number, etc. The year over year change is not really significant. Over 5 or 10 years, yes it's possible, but not in two consecutive years.

I dont understand ur logic

if u are assuming yield will not change then waitlist conversion rate will also not change - but u say waitlist conversion will increase

I think moving the deadline up leads to fewer offers in R2 bcos there is higher likelihood of R1 ppl joining (demonstrated by higher accepted offers)
