I filed my HBS app on saturday. My next one is NYU (Mid November), and that is my last R1 app. All my other apps are Round 2 and wouldnt be due till early January (and Im still debating which schools those would be).

I kind of regret doing HBS app now. Time wasted that I could have spent on a school that I have a much better chance of getting into... :(

If you put a good app forward to HBS no reason to regret. Problem is if you are an investment banking or consulting demographic.. you better be at M/B/B or at Morgan/Goldman type :D.

Hi, I'm an international applicant and need your opinion.

My application went under review 12th. Sep. and I haven't got interview invitation yet.
However, I got a call from adcom yesterday(10 minute call) and she asked my a few questions about my career goal, my prefessional progress and my extra curricular activities. I was very embarrased because I never expected it. It seemed like a kind of brief interview, but she said it is not.

What would be the purpose of this call?
Has anybody got a call from adcom before you got interview invitation?
Does adcom call applicants to decide interview invitation?

Any guess or opinion would be very helpful.

I don't think any of us on the 2012 forum have gotten such calls, but there were a couple of people on the 2011 forum that got similar calls (but mostly after interview, to be honest). From your summary it looks like they were trying to clarify a few points in your application, which is generally considered a good thing. :-D

Wow - didn't know this also happened. I think it would only be for the good, maybe they felt somethings weren't crystal clear in the app, think you're a strong candidate and wanted to quickly check in. Catching you unawares also helps them make sure you are not faking anything, cause if you know they were calling, you would have been better prepared to maybe even say what they want to hear, or say what you wrote in your app without really having meant it.

You should see this as a positive sign. When did you submit? And what's your profile?

I don't think you should regret it. I kinda regret my Wharton app, where one essay just wasn't very good but we'll see. HBS I felt good about, and though my chances are slim-to-none, I don't regret spending time & resources on it, even though I know chances are low.. You never know.


But I'm 100% committed to CBS now.. I just need them to be the same to me! :)

The school is probably missing something they need for you application such as transcripts or gmat scores. I would make sure you submitted everything and had an official gmat score sent over. If you are not sure, you may want to call and see what is missing. The deadline for ED is tomorrow and you would not want to fall out if you can help it.

If the recommendations show up as submitted on the website, and you can't tell what may be missing, you should probably contact admissions and they will tell you.

Guys - what time of the day does the adcom usually call... in the broad sense. Do they call during regular US business hours? or after 6pm? I got a call from an unknown caller at 6.30pm yesterday while I was on the phone with my boss. I abruptly ended the conversation with him to pick up, only to have it be a marketing call! :-/
