Is anybody planning to re-take/take the GMAT before August 15 for R3?
I have submitted a score but it is way below average (for candidates from my region) and I fear that no matter how I perform in the interview, I won't get in.
If you are invited to the interview, it means you have most likely checked the boxes. Of cos, a higher gmat won't hurt. But I won't say it is 100% necessary. When I mentioned that the adcom will revisit your entire application before releasing your result, it sort of serves as a 'double check' - making sure they don't leave anything out, and that your whole story flows, from your written essays to your video essays and to your interview feedback. The post-interview acceptance is quite high (usually; but this jan intake is oversubscribed), as long as you don't screw up, you should be fine.
Thank you for the detailed response. In my application, I did mention in the optional essay that I will be retaking the GMAT.
However, in the Email informing me about the interview, it mentioned if you have not submitted any score at all, we would need a score before Aug 15th.
So I am not sure if I do need to submit a score or not. I rather spend time preparing for the interview and acing it. I am just nervous lol.
You mentioned that you wrote in your optional essay that you will be retaking the GMAT - so I infer that your interview decision was given in the context of you having already submitted a gmat score, and likely they are alright with it. For standard procedures, the AO usually send some cookie-cutter emails so I wouldn't think they are really personally requesting for another of your gmat score by 15 Aug.
That said, you sort of got yourself hamstrung by saying you will be retaking the gmat. I'm not sure how meticulous they are in tracking and following up with your story, but i would think it may not reflect well if you promise to do something but did not fulfill it. However, the silver lining is you did not mention deadline, so perhaps you are indeed committed to retaking the gmat but it is just not plausible to get it done by 15 Aug.
At this point, I would think the interviews will be more important. A good interview may not get you in, but a bad one will keep you out. The same could not be said for gmat as INSEAD is quite lenient in this aspect as compared to other top schools.
