Hey guys,

This year has been quite troublesome for everyone. We can see havoc created in our applicants’ life due to Covid. And so, we want to give back to the community in whatever way we can. While we are already helping our applicants in any way we can, we are also organizing a free workshop on International Experience, LOR, and Resume. You can know more about the session here.

If interested, can register yourself here.
We’ll soon reach out to you!

Happy day!

Cheers!

Just done with my Insead interviews, junior interviewer was extremely relaxed and very friendly. Senior interviewer was quite unpleasant and stress test ish. Fingers crossed

Posted from my mobile device

Can you explain what kind difficult questions were asked? Which areas are they grilling you most on? How long were the interviews?

Mostly just career path to date and the choices I made, but the tone and direction of the interview was somewhat adversarial - practically every statement being challenged somewhat for the sake of it. Both interviews were 45 min

What does INSEAD and other top B-Schools, like HBS, value more:

1) A good leading role in a start-up?
Or
2) A decent role at a big brand - for example, associate at BCG?

I will be very grateful to you if you can help me understand this.

what is the Minimum GMAT Score to get in INSEAD?
1) No minimum score.
2) They advise 60+ percentile in both Verbal and Quants and 6 or more in IR.
3) Mid 80% range is 670 to 730
4) Average is somewhere between 700 and 710.

All the best Vrinda. If you’re an Indian engineer, try to score higher than average.

Thanks for sharing this Uday, very helpful

I am an Engineer as well

I graduated from NIT Kurukshetra and am working in a sales profile at Adobe. I have 5 years of experience (6 at the commencement of course)

I am aiming for a 750, any advice?

I have never scored 750 so I may not be the right person to advise. However, as you need to do all easy questions correct, most of the medium questions correct, and some of the tough questions correct, I’ll suggest to spend more time on gaining perfection on medium questions than gaining good efficiency on tough questions.

Even few wrong answers to easy questions can make it impossible to score even average. This is what makes GMAT much tougher than what it looks like.

and who are the best persons to write for that?

How old can a LOR be?

Or does it matter for them to be most recent employer etc?

By the time i apply, i will be ~4-5 years of workexp

So would it help to take it from a professor in my undergraduate college?

Preferably your direct manager. Anyone, under whom you’ve worked significantly. Of course, no matter what anyone says, their profile also matters but still you should have worked directly under them.

Just my opinion based on my research :
If they have a good reputation and a lot of excellent stuffs to talk about you, then it should do good. In that case take one from them and one from employer. Otherwise, they prefer both from employer.

They prefer.

If your highlighted achievements are from long ago then it might give an impression that you do not have good recent achievements. (ofcourse not a good thing for someone who’s expected to do even better tomorrow than today)

Keen to know how many people in their 30s have been directed to apply to the EMBA instead.

In their website it mentions that people who have >10 yrs work experience will be more suited to the EMBA program but so far I have seen 2 people here in their 30s who have been directed to apply to the EMBA program upon MBA application (I think one of them is 35 yrs old and has 9 yrs work experience?)

This is quite contradictory and scary as I can imagine someone prepping for their applications (GMAT, essays etc.) for a long time, and upon submission only to be told to go for a another program instead.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Definitely not fun. Generally, it is not age but work experience that count and are taken into consideration. One reason MBA programs do this kind of thing (much more so in the US) is that their recruiting is optimized for 28-year olds and 37 year-olds are much more experienced and usually don’t benefit much from the typical on-campus recruiting. It is a tricky situation. I made a post about it here: old-for-an-mba-352223.html Perhaps will help?

Will help with figuring it out that is...

Yes, i guess this is common and terrible. I also preped for MIM first, then informally redirected to MBA.

Thanks for your responses bb and Uday. On the INSEAD website it clearly says those with >10yrs work experience will be encouraged to go for the EMBA, which is fine if this is stipulated clearly but we are clearly seeing people here who fall within the 10 yr mark to be redirected to the EMBA instead.
