Thanks for the heads up! Yes i see that three people have already been invited for the R2 interviews. Big congrats to you all!

The deadline for interview invites to be sent out is 14 Dec though so i guess they will be sent out in waves. I will definitely try my best to stay optimistic. Good luck to everyone else waiting for their invites!

Hi motiv06,

First of all, congrats on receiving the invitation to interview.

If you don't mind me asking, when did you submit your application (exact date)?

Thank you!

Hi to all the people on this tread!

I have question regarding the suggested word limit for recommender questions at Insead. How much length would you cap the reply for each question at ? Additionally, for Insead, should the recommender paste his/her replies in text boxes or upload a document in the portal ?

Thanks!

I don't know about the word limit but from the following post it looks like the recommenders have to fill a form and submit it i.e recommender pastes his/her replies.

Hi srinivas,

The recommender will have to copy and paste the answers in the portal ;)

Regarding word limit...there isn't really a limit, which makes it a lot easier for the recommenders to write freely. I can share with you the average length of my 2 recommendations per question, if it helps:

How long have you known the candidate? Define your relationship with the candidate and the circumstances whereby you met.
>> 150 words

1. Comment on the candidate’s career progress to date and his/her career focus? >> 400 words

2. What do you consider to be the candidate’s major strengths? Comment on the factors that distinguish the candidate from other individuals at his/her level. >> 300 words

3. What do you consider to be the candidate’s major weaknesses? >> 150 words

4. Comment on the candidate’s potential for senior management. Do you see him/her as a future leader? >> 100 words

5. Describe the candidate as a person. Comment on his/her ability to establish and maintain relationships, sensitivity to others, self-confidence, attitude, etc. Specifically comment on the candidate’s behaviour or skills in a group setting/team environment. >> 250 words

Best of luck to you!

Awesome subirroy it was fun to get a real person narration of the process and see you on camera. I'm sure everyone will benefit from your valuable input.
Hope lots of people on this thread show up to your live chat today, Sunday 12/9 at 7:30 PM IST at

Can I ask how you decided that INSEAD was your #1 pick over Cambridge and LBS? Was it the consulting factor?

Hi, As you know by now there are no formal word limits. And. It’s a text box situation. This is a good resource to see this in black and white: https://aringo.com/current-recommender-questions/

I would recommend that you coach your recommender to write at least 300 to 500 words for each question. The more they write, the more they seem like a champion for you. You want recommenders to show enthusiasm and this is part of that. You want to show that others support you and are willing to spend time on this. So I think it’s important that they at least hit that 300 mark for almost all the questions aside from the first one about how do you know this guy.

I would definitely have them do at least 400 words on the last question. Group dynamics and teamwork skills are things that INSEAD wants to know about. If they pick you, you become the “product” they are selling to others and they want to know you are going to enrich rather than ruin the experience of your colleagues.

The common letter of recommendation and most schools allow 500 words for each question, which is partly how I arrive at the 300-500 number. INSEAD has no limit on these for a reason - they play a large part on their decision. Despite it being a huge application, they are willing to read an unlimited amount here.

Recommenders should be narrating specific stories – beginning, middle and end - where you are modeling leadership, teamwork and problem solving skills (and, innovation, communication.) So if they are doing this, they should meet the 300 threshold pretty easily.

Please make sure to coach your recommender and for best results, give them talking points for the anecdotes that best support the BRAND you are known for - what is most memorable about you to others.

For those of you preparing R3 applications, I hope you have already brainstormed content for each of the 7 essays and 10 recommendation anecdotes to share. ONE MONTH LEFT.

I thought you might find this INSEAD set of essays helpful. My client has OK'ed me to share them but for your own benefit don't plagiarize, of course. I've removed all the unique identifiers. https://mbaessaycoaching.com/wp-content ... Essays.pdf

With regards to his profile, plus points were that he was French (underrepresented..however less so at INSEAD of course), good grades, demonstrated impact at work and a strong "contribution" profile. Negatives were that he only had 2 years of work experience and a 650 GMAT.

He did not want to disclose his ambitions to his manager, so we did not submit any manager recommendations. His recommenders were a fellow board member and one internal client.

Invited to interview but withdrew when he was admitted to Wharton (specifically, Wharton-Lauder MBA/MA joint degree in International Affairs). His internship this summer was to work on the Facebook and https://gmatclub.com/chat merger in Ireland.

It was absolutely the consulting factor. However while Cambridge is still a distant third for me, more and more I find myself liking the idea of a more flexible program at LBS, in case it turns out that consulting isn't for me.

With less than 2 weeks to go before I have to make up my mind, I'm more confused than ever !
