For those of you who interviewed, is it important to schedule your interviewer as early as possible? The reason I ask is because I will be traveling for work and things will be very hectic until early November. Ideally I'd like to schedule something in November, but I am not sure if this will affect my application.

Very diverse group of applicants are on this forum based on the spreadsheet:

Curr Ind. Count %
Finance 35 40%
Consulting 12 14%
IT 9 10%
Healthcare 6 7%
***Other 26 30%
Total 88 100%

***
Some of the others:
non for profit
entrepreneurs
sales
product management
legal
supply chain
engineering

CBS's early early decision scheme worked out well for them it seems - 88 people applying ED vs 44 last year (according ot last year's GMATclub thread). crazy!

Not sure if 88 vs 44 tells us anything about ED application increases year over year since CBS recieves ~7k applications each year...I was just expecting that 95% of applicants will be in a finance related field and it is clearly not the case...

are there any j-term applicants still waiting for a decision? I am still waiting and I am wondering how many places are left this late in the process.

Hi,
For the Facebook group, CBS Class of 2013, matriculating August 2011, does anyone know if, by joining the group, it will show up on your newsfeed?

Thanks! :)

You can adjust your privacy settings so that you don't have a news feed at all OR you can delete that particular item as soon a it shows up.

Keep hanging. Waitlisted is much better than direct reject.

For improving your profile, I would employ "focus-and-attack" strategy. You identify your most weak issue in your profile (you should know what it is), and try to improve that weakness as much as possible. For instance, if your GMAT score was not outstanding, you may retake the test. If I were you, I may even focus on one of the two sections of the test, depending which one (quant or verbal) was less than outstanding in my current score. This works, because your test score is obviously good enough to be waitlisted, but if one of the sections was weaker than your max capacity, you can now put your full energy to improve that.

BTW, I'm a bit curious to know, if CBS waitlist people after interview, or without one? Have you been waitlisted after interview?

J. M. Tomaz,

Welcome to the purgatory. I have been in the waitlist for a while, and would like to share what I've learned.

1) Most people tell you to send additional material. I too have done so.

2) CBS says you shouldn't:
https://www.forbes.com/2009/05/14/busine ... -list.html
(Yes, Linda has left, but I believe this new orientation stands)

3) The question that is killing me is also "How many spots are left?". In spite of rumors that the class would be reduced, I still believe J-terms has an intake of 180 (3 x 60) students every year (I think I saw this in the application instructions or something). The facebook of supposedly approved J-termers has 82 members, but I am not sure if these people were actually accepted (I mean, how can the admin verify?). And even so, have all approved students adhered to the group? So, well, it's inconclusive.

Anyways, there are plenty of intl students (like myself), who need to take their visa, that have been waitlisted or haven't heard from admissions yet, maybe that tells us something (if you figure out please let me know, lol).

4) Related to #3, this is an interesting article on waitlist. This is what I believe, especially if you consider that CBS faces no competition for top students in J-Term (it is the only IVY/M7 program to offer this option), so they probably will take their time reviewing ALL applications that came in until the Oct 6th deadline before taking their decision.

Hope this helps getting you more anxious

Completed my interview today (My interviewer promised to submit his feedback by tomorrow). The interview lasted about an hour (maybe a little longer) and I felt that it went great. I found it to be very conversational and relaxing. No odd balls. I didn't get asked the Why MBA, Why Columbia thing. The first 20 minutes we spoke about what I currently do and where I see myself 3-5-10 year from now, I think that kind of covered the Why MBA and Columbia part. So I didn't have to reiterate.

Overall, I feel very good and hope to hear soon. Will keep you guys posted.

Points of advice:
1) Know your turf - If you are dead set on Investment Banking or what have you, be sure about it and convey it.

2) Be ready with good questions. I think this is important part in communicating "fit" to the program.

I feel each interview is very personal, but I found a lot of good information on Clear Admit related to Columbia interviews.

Good luck all.

Cheers!

It's officially the 10th week since my application went under review, and still nothing yet. I got the feeling that my package may be lost in the process...
Any suggestions? Should I email the adcom to confirm?

If ED I think you should wait
If J-Term I think you could send an e-mail

Hey Everyone,

I am an ED applicant to CBS, and I just received an interview invite, which I am very happy about. But I was asked to interview on campus with admissions staff, rather than with an alumnus. I live in the NYC area, so this isn't a problem, but am not sure what to think of this, since it seems like a deviation from standard practice.

Has this happened to anyone? If so, what was the result? Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks.

Congrats on the invite, when did you apply? I didn't see your name in the spreadsheet - trying to gauge where they are in the application submission timeline.

Please update:

I was invited to interview 10/15, I interviewed 10/22. I interviewed with admissions, so interview complete date is also 10/22. I was visiting from California and adcom gave me option of interviewing with admissions or alumni. I chose admissions.
