Hi People!
Long time reader, first time poster.
I got my phone call yesterday. As you'll see in the spreadsheet, my GPA, GMAT and TOEFL iBT scores (3.0; Q49, V34 -> 690; 110) are not exceptional. I was stronger on the EC and the international work experience, and the committee gave it the importance I was hoping for.
This is just a wink at those who are not getting the scores they were hoping for: If you have good stuff to tell about yourself, the numbers are secondary.

Looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible next September, and good luck!

Thanks for this note, I have completed my interview, and am waiting to hear back, waiting nervously like many others. If were a nail-biter I would have no nails left by now...

The thing w ADCOM is if they read your profile and like you ..you are invited right away...
but if they don't like your profile..they wait for the "official notice" to ding you...
They read about 200-250 apps/day

That isn't the case at all w/ CBS. They have rolling admissions... tons of people have received interviews, acceptances, dings, and waitlists already while others still haven't been dealt with. They're not holding onto all the to-be-dinged for one massive purge at all from what I can tell -- there isn't even an official release date from what I can tell. I wouldn't be surprised if things moved in "packets," but it simply isn't as structured as other schools with well-defined rounds.

CBS admissions are rolling, so if you apply early decision and don't hear back regarding an interview in 5-7 weeks, it may imply that things aren't working out. Either it may lead to a ding, OR you may be waitlisted / deferred. But in any event, be hopeful. You aren't dinged until you're dinged.

any J-term applicants still waiting for a final decision?

None on my end, I visited CBS this weekend en route to London and I had a chance to talk with adcom, sit in on a class and chat with students. I luckily met a J-Termer who was waitlisted as well, but was eventually accepted. He offered to send a nudge to adcom on my behalf.

Still waiting, facebook group for 2012 j-termers currently has 104 members..so if u assume everyone joins right away after being accepted, there are +/- 80 more spots open...

What are the FB group sizes for the entering regular/ED-termers and J-termers? Or do they share the same FB group?

Has columbia become more attractive than other universities? The Sloan/Stanford forums are quite deserted as compared to this.

Upto page 93 now!

Hi, first time poster (on this chat). Just wondering how important you guys think timing is. I'm working on R1 interviews now, and aiming to submit CBS around 12/1. Should I be scrambling to get it in sooner? Thanks very much!

I was wondering the same. My app went complete on Friday, and I've been staring at my phone ever since!

If I submitted my app on lets say 8/26 and my LORs went in on 10/6. would I assume 4-8 weeks from 8/26 or 10/6?

i'm assuming 4-8 weeks whenever your app is "completed"

Would be since the date your app went complete so 10/6.

Hi all,

Long-time lurker here. I am about to submit my application for regular-decision.

Just a quick question; did anyone upload a picture of themselves for the application? Any idea whether this makes any difference or what the reasoning is behind this?

Thanks!

In Europe, where I am from, a picture is usually required to apply for a school or a job (in Germany, a standard resume template even has a place for a mandatory photo). I was actually very surprised to notice that U.S. schools don't ask for a picture, except the CBS.

As many U.S. schools may have a less vigorous requirements for a face-to-face interviews than European ones, I find the no-photo policy even more surprising. How could a school know about the students without seeing the applicant's face??
