Hi everyone,

I'm a waitlisted J-termer. I have been waitlisted for about 3 weeks now.

I am an international applicant and am unable to visit the campus at the moment.

Is there anything else I can do to strengthen my candidacy?

At the info session, I got to know one of the Alumni Ambassadors, and have stayed in touch with him.

He is offering to send an email vouching for me to adcom. Do y'all think this is a good idea or is it a little too pushy?

An advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

When I was at an admissions session, Bob Shea said that they ask for a photo for the same reason they have essay 2: to make each candidate a person rather than just an application. I included one that could have been a linkedin or fb profile pic. :)

Is it just me or does it seem way too quiet lately? I have been freaking out this week, checking my email every 5 seconds. I applied ED on 10/6...I'm in as Sam on the spreadsheet. Has anyone heard anything this week? I am also a reapplicant. Are there any reapplicants out there who applied around the same time and got an interview?

Updated online or it's from the admissions committee, via email.

A small revision imo:
Interview invites-online
The almighty admit- online and "most likely" a phone call

I'm in the same boat - reapp and all. But since I only went complete on 10/22, I'm not gonna give up until 11/22. (From my experience last year, after a month and NO feedback, it's a decent bet that it's not gonna happen.)

My view on the subject (previously posted)

Welcome to the purgatory. I have been in the waitlist for a while, and would like to share what I've learned.

1) Most people tell you to send additional material. I too have done so.

2) CBS says you shouldn't:
https://www.forbes.com/2009/05/14/busine ... -list.html
(Yes, Linda has left, but I believe this new orientation stands)

3) The question that is killing me is also "How many spots are left?". In spite of rumors that the class would be reduced, I still believe J-terms has an intake of 180 (3 x 60) students every year (I think I saw this in the application instructions or something). The facebook of supposedly approved J-termers has 82 members, but I am not sure if these people were actually accepted (I mean, how can the admin verify?). And even so, have all approved students adhered to the group? So, well, it's inconclusive.

Anyways, there are plenty of intl students (like myself), who need to take their visa, that have been waitlisted or haven't heard from admissions yet, maybe that tells us something (if you figure out please let me know, lol).

4) Related to #3, this is an interesting article on waitlist. This is what I believe, especially if you consider that CBS faces no competition for top students in J-Term (it is the only IVY/M7 program to offer this option), so they probably will take their time reviewing ALL applications that came in until the Oct 6th deadline before taking their decision.

Hope this helps getting you more anxious

Just got an email that my interview went complete (ED applicant). I interviewed on 11/4. From the spreadsheet it seems like only 1 person got denied that interviewed as well. Hopefully that means they're taking most people they invite for an interview unless the interview goes very badly.

I visited CBS last week and was lucky enough to chat with a Hermes member (who was also a j-termer that was waitlisted). He couldn't provide insight into the adcom's waitlist choice strategy (neither could CBS adcoms) but he provided me great insight into the campus.

What I've done :

1. Updated adcoms about my job scope change
2. Sent in another rec letter (addressing a what i thought was a weakness in my app)
3. My interviewer put in a good word for me once i told him i was waitlisted
4. Visited the campus and spoke with adcoms (i live on the west coast, i decided to stay a few days in nyc en route to london)
5. Had a Hermes member put in a good word for me.

So pretty much I've exhausted all the waitlist strategy options.

My opinion on yours, i heard its a hit/miss on having a student write to adcoms (since they could assume a student is your friend). IMO i'd only ask for a good word if a student is a Hermes member.

my 2 cents

I don't want to get my hopes up, but I saw the same thing. Only a handful have been waitlisted as well, which (hopefully) bodes well for those of us waiting to hear back.

I'm looking to apply fairly late in the regular decision process - late December.

Is this a bad move? The deadline is Jan 5.

Not sure how much truth there is to this but I just called the admissions office and they informed me that they are still reviewing the ED applications that were submitted close to the deadline. So to all the fellow procrastinators, keep hope alive. There's a possibility that your application hasn't been looked at yet and may be the reason why you haven't heard back regarding interviews or rejections.

If anyone has any additional insight, please feel free to share. After getting dinged from Wharton, I'm really hoping Columbia comes through for me.
