Hi All,

My application is under review but I still haven't heard anything from CBS. No Ding, No Interview. Anyone else in a similar position?

Hi mverma, I suppose quite a few of us are still in the same boat..no invite, no ding..my application has been under review since Oct 7. Although the chances are minimal at this stage, all we need is 1 invite..and finally 1 admit..fingers crossed yet again!

there is still hope, i know a guy got interview early Dec, interviewed mid-Dec and finally took the offer the same day interview completed last year

To fellows still waiting for an interview invitation, I have a theory: our application went in slightly before the deadline, and became under review in early October. But this stack of appliations got stuck somewhere and will be processed at last. It shouldn't be related to our candidacy, just not lucky.

To be honest, I feel my background is stronger than many people admitted last year, so still having faith on our chances.

Based on one bbs post from last year, someone got an interview invitation early December, and was admitted. So no worry. But it's good to hear from some other fellows here.

lunasea29 Congratulations on getting admitted to CBS!! It an top school and definitely a great accomplishment for the hard work you may have put in!! :)

I do however feel that we are unnecessarily being harsh on smus and I actually agree with him/her. This forum provides great support for all of us however we are all smart accomplished people and hope to take up important positions in the future. I think we should have the confidence to deal with a small matter of responding to a phone call without consultation.

We have all pulled up our friends/siblings when they display a lack of confidence. Smus words were harsh but there was probably something for lunasea29 to learn there. Not all feedback will be sweet moreso after b-school. :)

You do realize that we are not stupid and we know that you (minime2) are also smusCOX2 and you have various other user names (smusCOX, mustangpower, iplayrugby, etc). So stop defending yourself.

You are not the first troll I dealt with.

where to begin wow. umm....ok well here we go. clearly you have no respect for this forum, yourself, or your own integrity. Because if you did, you'd be doing something a little more productive than trolling around playing "minime" on here. So in essence, you provide absolutely no value on this forum/society/world what-so-ever. You're rude, deceitful, and a clear mockery to everyone.

How does that make you feel....mustangpower....oh wait, you're minime2...nope wrong again, iplayrugby. I mean I just put it in cold harsh English words for you - you're pathetic.

On a side note, did you really get a 770 on your GMAT or is that another trollin' fantasy of yours? If so, you're words do me no justice anymore. Post it up - and don't try to photoshop it because I'm a pro at photoshop and can spot it a mile away. If you had any dignity in you left at all at this point, you'd make a comeback and prove us all wrong. the clock is tickin' and we're not gettin' any younger....

smusCOX2 that's really not necessary. This is a forum to support each other. Even if you think it's a stupid question, it's not stupid to the person asking it. You don't need to put them down.

Thank you for your advice and support!
I could only hope that the people I go to school with are as nice and supportive as the folks here:)
Just to update you guys, I called back and basically was told that I have been admitted!

Now, I have a question about the deposits for those of you who already paid, do I wire the money or send them a cheque, how does this work? If I am late say by a day or two to make my deposits since I need to pull my funds together (it's a large sum of money, I didn't know I would hear back so soon, since everyone was waiting for such a long time after their interview went complete), would that be okay? If I just tell admissions this situation? Especially people who has been in this situation, I would really appreciate your insights!

Meanwhile, all I want to say is Keep Faith to those of you still waiting. You have to believe that things will work out. I had this thought even at the beginning of the process that things will work out. It's great we have this community here. It's hard in real life for me since I have no other friends doing this right now, so it's always great to come to gmatclub and read about other people's experiences. It's kept me sane during this process. Anyhoo, I am getting way to emo here, so I will stop:)

I think they only accept checks from us banks. If you are overseas, it's better off for you to wire the money. I dunno how late will be considered too late. For that you have to call CBS and find out. Congrats!

I have a question for the admitted candidates.

Has your status on the online application changed since you the admit? I interviewed on 10th November and the status has been complete since 11th November. However, I have been away from humanity for a while with no access to my cell phone since the 12th. It appears that most people that interviewed around that time have heard a decision one way or another. Given that my status hasnt changed, I am thinking of calling admissions for an update.

Is there anybody else here who interviewed but hasnt heard in over 2 weeks?

Thanks

How is the social scene at Columbia. If a lot of people already live in NYC then they would be more inclined to socialize with their own friends. Is this kind of like a commuter school?

The fact that the school is in NYC will inherently make it a commuter school. Additionally, I'm sure many people will socialize with their existing friends, but many will not. There are nearly 1500 students at the b school, I'm sure you'll be able to make friends with at least a few of them :-D

For the essay question 1, do we talk about the past achievements? Or we should just focus on career goals and why CBS? The question didn't specifically ask for past achievements, but to what extent we should include it there?

Many thanks for the insights!! :)

I didn't write about my past achievements at all in essay 1. I specifically answered the question (career goals and why CBS).

No need to do a resume dump when they've already got it, right?

I talked about my career progress briefly so that they could see where i was coming from. Maybe try to explain the motivation why you did what you did so that admissions understand your career decisions.

Thanks! I just want to make sure I could find a group of friends that I could chill with at b-school. Especially in a place like NYC where you could so easily feel lost.

I'm more leaning towards discussing the achievements to show my progress and how I changed the jobs to get closer to my goals. Is this a fatal action? Anyone else has any take on this?

If I do discuss the past achievements, is 200 words (out of total 750 words) on this too much?
