Just got the email, denied without interview.

ED applicant

Background:
750 GMAT (q48v46)
3.85 GPA (very respectable private school in US, economics & pre-med major)
2.5 years entrepreneurship experience (small but growing retail business) at matriculation
22 yrs old (nearly 23)

Submitted: 09/15
Decision: 10/07

Very disappointing as CBS was my best fit and has been my dream school for years (long-term goal is social entrepreneurship, which I've already taken steps toward). I suspect that I got rejected due to my young age/lack of experience, though I believe I clearly demonstrated maturity, potential, and innovation through my entrepreneurship. I also feel that I had a unique and compelling story, one that tied in perfectly with my goals and work experience, due to my rough upbringing, which also led to my substantial extracurricular experience (I founded an association, have countless volunteer hours, initiated several charitable events/philanthropic efforts, etc.)

Oh well, I knew this was a long shot anyway. I am not giving up, though. Not letting this dream die just yet and I will likely try again next year or the year after. Not sure what to do from here, however. What can I do to improve my candidacy? I'll develop my business and make it even bigger, but I doubt I can change that much in a year.

If I were you, I would secure a phone call with the AdCom and try to learn why I was dinged. They could tell you when to reapply.

There is a few examples of people doing so: dinged, phone call, reapply, get admitted :)

I wish you the best luck in the world and I hope you will find sucess.

You mention contacting the ad com to find out why you were dinged? Is this actually a possibility? They actually respond to you?

I read somewhere that someone did it. The AdCom answer was to have a better gmat and reapply. He did so and got in.

I attended an admissions event this past week and have some news for you guys.

I specifically asked how long it would take to get our decisions once we submit our applications. The following was the reply.

In case you've submitted the application early in the ED round (July, August) - it may take somewhere between 2-3 weeks to evaluate your application and accordingly provide a decision. (This is because they have fewer applications in these months than in later months)

If you've submitted your application later in the ED round (September, just before the deadline) - it may take anywhere between 3 to 6 weeks (depending on the number of applications) for the adcom to come back to you with a invite/decision. This is because application reading at CBS is a FIFO process and the applications keep piling.

Now comes the weird part and YES! I reconfirmed this with the Associate director! I was super shocked too!

If you've submitted your application early for RD (before the ED deadline) or even if you submit now, it may take upto 6 weeks from the end of November for the adcom to come back to you. Again, this is because the CBS's application reading process is a FIFO process and a lot of people apply during this time of the year. This essentially means, RD interviews/decisions may be expected somewhere between 8 weeks (6 weeks till end nov + 2 weeks) and 12 weeks from now.

For people interviewed, another 4 weeks should be added for the interview and final decision.

I hope this helps.

Anyone has any idea, on average, how many of the ~550 students columbia admits through ED (assuming j term is around 200 students)? And how many students generally apply through ED? Just trying to get an idea of what the acceptance rate looks like for ED..

Interview submitted on 9/29, still waiting too.... the wait is just downright awful! I'm literally checking my email every other 30 min

Hey, can you let us know if you hear back today (my interview assessment was submitted around your's - 30th!)?

Has it taken longer than two weeks for anyone to hear back?

Based upon the recent timing - I wouldn't expect to hear back before next Friday (Oct 24). But I may be completely off.

Let me know when you hear back! Our dates are pretty close. I'm hoping we hear by Friday but it's highly unlikely. Probably going to be next week..

Hi Everyone,
I'm an international early decision candidate out of Asia.
Submitted: 9/22
Interview Invite: 10/10

Does anyone have any idea what percentage of applicants get an interview invite? How many get accepted post-interview?

Thanks in advance! :-D
