Re: Calling all CBS Applicants - (2016 Intake) Class of 2018 [#permalink]
May I ask what stats changed between your application and reapplication? I am actually going to be a re-applicant as well and so far I've upped my gmat from a 660 to a 740, I'm hoping that is enough for an interview this go around : /

Thanks!!!

-reapplicant (placed on the ED deferred decision wait list last year; eventually rejected) targeting career change into BB IB
-CFA L3 candidate
-4 years WE (5 at matriculation) as financial adviser at very small firm specializing in life insurance consulting
-engine/econ undergrad at elite (but definitely non-target) liberal arts college (~3.2 GPA)
-730 GMAT (50Q/38V/4.5AWA/8IR)
-solid ECs

My interview went really well. Very conversational, was able to find multiple connect points to the interviewer, etc.

I would highly recommend going through all of the interview debriefs on Clear Admit. They're pretty spot on.

A few factors that I think helped:

1) When I was deferred last fall, I retook and raised my GMAT 40 points (to 730) ... however, the deferred decision wait list is hard to get off of (likely part of why I was eventually rejected) because you are no longer considered early decision - so, applying ED this year I started off on higher footing. (I also applied ED much earlier this year than I did last year.)

2) I received a fairly notable promotion at work.

3) I beefed up my EC involvement.

4) I developed a nice relationship with my CBS wait list manager (it's very important to not be overbearing or annoying though).

First time poster, long time reader of all the Columbia threads...

Just finishing up my first (and hopefully last) app, the Columbia ED.

Here is my profile, I'll keep this thread updated with my timeline as it looks like I'll be in the first 5 or so applicants on gmatclub for this year..

GPA: 3.5 from top 25 school Business admin degree
W/E: 3 years MM IB then 1 year Corp Finance with an engineering company
GMAT: 750 1 take
Recommendation: I know one will be very good (CBS grad), the other I am 90% will be good but risk b/c he might not understand the MBA process as well.

Plan on turning everything in next Tuesday.

Hi! How do I know if the interviewer has already submitted the interview report?

I have seen that many people know the date when the interviewer submits it.

Hope to hear back something positive from CBS soon!!

Ha! You'd think that the 12 month "runway" would be nice ... but I'm so impatient!! I wish I could start with this year's class in August. Oh well :-D

I'll keep working at my current job (which is awesome, in its own right), then maybe take a month off or so before orientation next year.

Now that the CBS admission hurdle is out of the way, I'm counting down the seconds until August 11th for #CFAresults (oh, and I'm getting married in January :-D )

Congrats! I assumed you were a J-Term applicant. Had no idea CBS was processing anyone else at this point. Are you Early Decision then?

Hey everyone,

I'm a second year MBA student and I'd like to share my 2 cents of advice with you.

B-school is awesome, and you will enjoy it very much. Hopefully you'll get into CBS, but if you don't - do not be discouraged to pursue an MBA, there are plenty of good schools out there.

It's never too early to begin your career search. You need to arrive with a game plan. A very cool and helpful resource i've been using since I started my MBA is pymetrics. pymetrics is a neuroscience game-based career assessment test that reveals your cognitive and social traits. Then you receive a full career profile that determines in which industries and functions you are most likely to succeed. The platforms suggest you companies and actual jobs that are posted there. If you are a match and express interest, you will likely be contacted by the company.

It's awesome for internships and full time offers. Instead of writing endless cover letters and tweaking your resume, you play games: literally.

I will be applying early admission. I have a 780 GMAT, 3.93 GPA as a Business major from a Top-20 College, and 3 years of W/E in Financial Services.

I plan to work really hard over the next month to perfect my application, because it seems that people with really strong profiles still get rejected pretty frequently.

Hey all,

It would be good to understand how you know when the interview report was submitted. I had my interview a few days ago but haven't seen a status change.

Congratulations CBSED18!

This is my first time applying in b-School. Does anyone know how long is the interview generally?
