Admissions emailed asking me if I would be open to interviewing in Delhi/Bangalore. They are having a hard time matching me with an alum in Mumbai. My understanding is that in any given city there are a handful of alumni who volunteer to do the interviewing every season and I'm guessing they already have their hands full for R1. Is that bad news for me? Was I low on their priority list and hence not matched immediately? Or am I reading too much into this?

Has anyone seen any indication of the % interviewed applicants that are offered admission? I know the overall acceptance rate is ~23%, what does that jump to once you get an interview?

If statistics about applicants to interview are correct at ~40% and acceptance rate is in fact 23%, then conversion rate from applicants interviewed to admitted must be ~58%...

For each 100 applicants - 23 are admitted
For each 100 applicants - 40 are invited to interview
Hence, 23/40 = 58%

I did took it from the thread, not sure where the information comes from nor the accuracy of it.

Do you have a source for this that you would be able to share? Also ~50% invite implies a 48% interview/acceptance rate based off a 24% total acceptance rate.

Either way, probably safe to say 50% are interviewed / 50% of those interviewed are accepted +/-10% for each is probably reasonable.

I'm from South Florida and have gone to 3 local events, but haven't visited campus yet. I just received an interview invite but haven't yet decided if I should travel all the way to campus. Would interviewing on campus give me a better shot?

You do not have to travel to campus to interview if it's inconvenient. It is nice to do so but adcom does not expect everyone to travel. All things being equal, a visit is a good idea but more important is to perfect your interview practice so you ace the interview. Good luck!

Apologies, does anyone here have a phone interview?

I am located in Kyrgyzstan and there is 100% no booth alumni here. I received my invitation on 12th, submitted the interview form on 13th. Having not received any response in 3 days, I e-mailed them myself on 17th, saying that I am ready to travel to Moscow (Russia), Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Istanbul (Turkey). Received an e-mail to wait until the next week right away. On Oct 19th I received an e-mail from Kelly Smith, asking which other cities except Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) I could visit. I sent the above three cities again and today received an e-mail, saying that there are no available alumni in those cities, so the interview will be held by phone with admissions officer and they will let me know later the exact day and time of the interview.

Does anyone else have similar situation? Or did anyone have a phone interview before? I think it is 10000 times harder than in-person (don't see the person, can't show yourself, might be problems with connection...)

But, anyways even with skype there can be issues. And also, I think that an inverview with an admission officer is much more strict and formal... Right?

В Чикаго на кампусе интервью проводят не admissions officers, а студенты второго курса

Да, но мне конкретно написали, что по телефону будет принимать admissions officer.

You are right, skype interviews are conducted by staff, this is an excerpt from an old transcrip of chat with admissions:
Quote:
Generally speaking, we try to provide an alumni interview when possible. However, for applicants in areas where we do not have alumni we will set up a phone or skype interview with staff.

I am in a similar situation, for some reason they couldn't find an alumni in the city of my residence, so I'm thinking about asking for a Skype interview as otherwise I'm not sure I'll be on time.
