Fascinating, coincides with colonialism and how it reached it’s peak and successfully drained wealth from all it’s colonies and the shift towards east coincides with rise of China in East especially post 1990, another factor to consider is the pivot happens around 1950 , major countries gained independence post that in Asia and Africa
Also 1940 onwards that shift was majorly towards US profiting from it allies and WW2, very interesting , got entire flashback of world history i studied back in the day

Yup joining WTO in 2001 contributed to this no doubt ,
And also emerging markets in SEA and India continued the shift towards east

Basically diplomatically this was more like a shift from look west policy to look east policy

By 2050, the center will be back between India and China as per projections , basically where it was in 1 CE.
This is so poetic like the world economy making a full circle.

Before 1 CE, India led with China close behind (Rome was a distant 3rd). From 1 CE to ~1600, India + China together held over half of global GDP for about 1,600 years, before their share collapsed with colonialism + Western industrialization. In recent decades the shift has been back east with China’s rise and India’s growth, and by 2050 the economic center of gravity is projected to be near India–China again — less a “full circle” and more a return to the world’s natural state. Most forecasts agree the top 3 economies by 2050 will be China, India, and the US (order varies), if China manages its slowdown and India sustains reforms

Even my firm has a lot of people on H1-B visas, not sure how they're gonna react.

I think it's the 3rd largest H1-B holder
