How much time did you (are you) guys spend preparing for the interview?

@ATL if I'm luck enough to get in, I'm taking a calc class at a local comm college. That's what I said on my app at least. However, I wasn't even aware of the math camp. Do you have any more details? Like when it starts/ends, how many hours per day, etc.

Posted from my mobile device

I probably spent 30 to 45 minutes or so, looking over my resume and reviewing info specific to Fuqua. I'd prepared for an interview at another program and the questions tend to be similar from b-school to b-school.

The Math Camp is optional and runs for five days during the second to last week of July, beginning on Monday, July 18th. I think classes run the whole day. It seems to be designed primarily for incoming first years who come from a non-quant background and who haven't taken any math courses lately. I think it exposes students to basic concepts in accounting and stats too.

Anyone else thinking of attending the event for admitted students in Atlanta, GA on 3/7?

I am most likely attending the event in the A-town. I am there visiting my sister and friends as a coincidence that weekend although I am from the New Jersey area. Btw, I went to school at GT.

What do you guys think about editing your resume from what you originally submitted with your application? Mine was over one page, and I was thinking about deleting some academic accomplishments so it's one page and flows better. I don't know if that looks bad or if it's generally frowned upon.

Just got my interview invite yesterday and have scheduled an interview on the last day available, March 1. I'm super excited for this, but unfortunately, my schedule only allows me to fly in on a red eye (from Seattle) and fly out the evening after the interview. I also scheduled a campus tour and lunch before the interview.

Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks!

The email I got from my interviewer said he'll be having a copy of my resume, but if I wish to carry an updated one, I can.

yup...you generally are allowed to update yr resume..but the spirit of that is mainly in case you want to add some accomplishments in the past few months after submitting the app....i wouldnt recommend drastically changing yr resume, as tht will become one of the topics of yr interview conversation and you could find yourself in a soup...stick to whatever u submitted, with only minor additions/ deletions....

You got an invite dude, you're chances of being accepted have just dramatically increased from where it was yesterday, congrats :)
The more school interviews I do, the more I think interviews serves only as a basis for elimination. I find it really hard to believe that adcom places a lot of emphasis on 30-min interviews conducted by 2nd year students.

All parts of your application can be considered a basis for elimination if not impressive enough for admission. 2nd year students as interviewers are supposed to have equal weight, but honestly each school must be different in how much the interview matters. Schools with a very distinct culture want to make sure you "fit," while schools that want high yield want to make sure you REALLY want to go there and schools looking to up their numbers in the rankings want higher GMATs/GPAs.

IMHO, I think the interview is the one opportunity you have to put a face to a resume and is really your one chance to impress. If you mess it up, oh well. But if you are able to convey a sense of purpose, eloquence and presence, it can only help.

Since admissions for the most part is a black box (or else I'm sure it'll be somewhat scandalous), most of what you just wrote is just conjecture. The point I didn't get across before is I think a lot of applicants that have nearly no chance are also interviewed along with the people that are shoe-ins. The difference being admission opportunity is the shoe-in people's to lose. Though I'm sure a few borderline applicants get in if a catastrophic number of shoe-in candidates flunk their interview.

Maybe it's an obvious point that I'm making, but unlike most job interviews, clinching an interview doesn't mean you're on relatively equal footing with others in the same position, because the rest of your application is always going to colossally outweigh however well you did in your interview. Then you have factors like student/alum interviewers that provide sloppy feedback and the whole interview process just kind of becomes a wash.

Hi Guys,

I am an EMBA applicant (weekend program), and I interviewed at Duke today. I came away with a very good idea of what Duke expects and how I would fit into the larger picture. For those who wonder, my sense is that they would let folks know about "red flags" as early as possible. In other words, I found them quite professional, and not interested in leading folks on. I had an amazing experience today, and cannot say enough good about the Fuqua School of Business. I am curious - are there many other EMBA applicants to Duke here?

who are we to decide who is a shoe-in or who doesnt have a chance for admission. the whole process is very holistic and absolutely anything in yr application can have a very strong positive or negative impact...just because u have impressive numbers (gmat, gpa, work ex, salary, etc) doesnt mean you are a stong candidate. yr goals, yr "fit", career progression, etc are very subjective issues and no one can be sure of "the right answer" to these questions..

I always thought that if you get an interview invite you're pretty much on equal footing with your competition/peers. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that 35-50% of people interviewed just don't "fit" because they don't align with the schools culture, focus, or are just plain awkward. It's hard to imagine a school would accept a person with a 780 but doesn't quite "fit" over a 650 gmat who is "perfect" for the program.

see, thats the whole point...what if you couldnt score higher on the gmat due to a variety of reasons, but you have the personality of a CEO?? you're good at making conversation, have yr goals in life cut out well and the overall objective of yr MBA matches well with the school and the school can really help you with yr objectives....

on the other hand, you have a 790 gmat but dont really know what you want to do in life. or yr goals are such that the school may not be able to help you much with that. you have a shy personality and dont really talk much with the interviewer...that can really screw yr chances...

thts what the interview is for...you can write mountains on yr essay, but do you really have the personality and attitude and mindset to go anywhere with it....
