I have a question regarding Duke Fuqua recruitment as compared with say, that of a school like Chicago Booth. From what I have seen in the data available online, in terms of the number of jobs, types of jobs and companies, there is no significant difference between the two schools. From a purely job prospects perspective, does it matter where you do your MBA then? Also, are there any subtle differences that I am missing. I noticed earlier in this thread (I think) that top consulting firms place Duke graduates in difference offices than say those from Harvard or Columbia (they get their pick). To what extent is that true and is there anything else like this that an MBA aspirant should be aware of? Maybe current students can shed light on this.
From my understanding, a school like Duke will still place people in all the same top firms but will probably have lower placement numbers. Take Wharton for example, they placed 50 in to Mck and 30+ into BCG. I'm not sure Duke is placing at those kinds of numbers at those two firms. Also, schools such as Wharton, Chicago, Columbia will have way more hedge funds and private equity firms recruiting than Duke. If you goal is just banking at a any bulge bracket, consulting at any top firm or any corporate development type job there is probably little difference in placement. But if your goal is to break into only the elitist firms, hedge funds, private equity, etc. there is probably a substantial difference between the placements.
