For the folks who are still waitlisted, do you have any idea what does it mean now?
Being waitlisted is frustrating, but it's
not a rejection. If you're still waitlisted, at this point in the admissions cycle, typically May or later, it’s important to understand what this status indicates while remaining hopeful. At this stage, waitlist usually means you were seen as a strong applicant with potential, but the adcom has already extended offers to candidates who helped meet specific class-building priorities (such as professional background, geographic diversity, or representation goals). However, you’re still being considered in case space opens up due to withdrawals or yield management.
Historically, Fuqua has been known to pull some candidates off the waitlist around late May/June/July. While it becomes less common the closer it gets to the start of the program, movement can happen due to admitted candidates declining offers, visa complications for international students, or last-minute changes in class composition.
If Duke allows waitlisted applicants to submit updates(at this time), you can try sending a brief update letter(in case you have not done it yet). This could include recent professional achievements, completion of relevant coursework or certifications, and a thoughtful reaffirmation of why Fuqua remains your top choice. Highlight your continued enthusiasm and readiness to accept an offer immediately if extended. Additionally, at the same time, it’s wise to prepare a Plan B.
Good luck and best wishes to everyone!
