Hi,

Just wondering if someone could help me understand why I didn't even get an interview call based on my profile? This would help me pinpoint the area of improvement for re-applying to the college for next year. Let me know if I should post this to another thread.

I am from India, did Bachelors in Commerce from one of the topmost Delhi University college with 78% in undergrad. Been working in auditing at a Big4 since 4.5 years, and got the CPA certification. I have had a decent career growth, with one accelerated promotion and consistently high performance rating.

Reason for MBA - Change career to management consulting in the short-term, and general management in the long-term

GMAT 700 - V38 Q47

Other -
Certification in French language
Participated in case studies/quiz competitions at college level (not much of extracurriculars with work)
Volunteered at 2 NGOs during college

Thanks in advance!

Hi Cheshta13 - sorry to hear that you did not receive an interview invite. There aren't any glaring red flags with your profile, but given Haas's 12% admissions rate, average GMAT of 720, and average GPA of 3.71 last year (I wouldn't think this year is any easier), it takes a lot to stand out to the admissions committee, especially for a school that places such as high emphasis on culture (which in many respects is codified by its Defining Principles).

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you'd like more personalized feedback.

HaaS School of Management has released its MBA essays for this year and the application deadline for Round 1 has been set for September 12.

HaaS is a value driven MBA program which treasures humility, curiosity, ethics, authenticity, and academic rigor. Berkeley looks for cultural fitment of candidates and values candidates with strong commitment towards their profession and society

HaaS application requires two essays:

Essay1: Tell us a six-word story that reflects a memorable experience in your life-to-date. Elaborate on why it is meaningful to you. (300 words maximum)

For the story to be right, it must be yours. HaaS will not evaluate you on your grammar for those six words. The six words should convey what you want to convey to HaaS. And don’t worry you have additional 294 words to complete your stellar story

Essay #2
Briefly describe your immediate post-MBA career goal, and discuss how it will put you on a path to a meaningful and rewarding career. (300 words maximum)

In this essay your focus should be on developing a road-map to align your immediate career goals with your long-term goals and how your MBA education and existing skills will contribute to complete the story.
The essays should bring out your leadership skills and values - The task you undertook, what you did or said, and how well you were able to demonstrate your values and commitment. Spend a good amount of time to set up a background story and formulate a meaningful structure to bring out all the key elements of your journey.

Now is a good time to start working on your application and essays, especially if you are interested to apply to multiple business schools.
We at “BeyondtheGMAT” provide a free evaluation of your profile and guide you in selecting your target business schools. We help you shape an all-rounded application that resonates well with the adcoms at each B school.
