Hey everyone, I was suspended for one semester due to cheating on an online exam. I was reckless and young at the time, and I made a big mistake. Half of our class was also suspended for the same reason. At that time, I was busy working on building a startup project. Will this have a major impact on my application?

I wanted to share this recent article I wrote for Poets & Quants after attending my HBS reunion.  The MBA can help build a question driven mindframe that will stay with you for decades and can of course be stengthened through professional experiences.

Is this indicated on your transcript? If so did you include this information in the additional information ? Handling this in a straightforward proactively why would be the best thing. You don’t want to leave a lot of unsupervised thinking

Hello englandzz,

Hope this finds you well.

We are assuming that your suspension would be visible on your transcript. Kindly address this in a candid manner without justifying anything; admit to the mistake and talk about how you have had your learning from this episode.

Anyone will, at best, speculate on how this will impact your application. Our suggestion would be to not think about it (because you will never have a yes or no for an answer); just keep doing your bit.

All the best!

The world is far from perfect, and nobody is flawless. Schools understand that not everyone can be a paragon of virtue without any blemishes. We've all faced challenges and have had our share of missteps during our school and college days. As long as your actions haven't led to any legal consequences (which you must disclose if they have), you can be confident that your school won't speak ill of a high-potential former student or hinder your application to prestigious colleges.

I have seen many people who at some point faced disciplinary action in school or college. And they turned out just fine in life and many attended very prestigious universities. If it's clearly stated in the school's application form to mention about "disciplinary action in school" you could mention that. Otherwise, don't.

Best wishes

1) no one does an executive mba if they just started working and even a regular mba is ill advised for “just started working” because you don’t have a frame of reference yet for what you learn 2) HBS does not offer an EMBA. Wharton does; HBS does not..
