Tatas have a very high brand recognition at HBS. If you can highlight leadership sufficiently you do surely have a good chance.

There is also a pattern with what to watch for corresponding to the question and difficulty for verbal. For example, the short, long, and medium passages have “very hard questions” which will typically ask you to select one or two options that the passage supports or does not support. What I have noticed so far is that for these questions, there is either two right answers or one right answer and a trap answer. The trap answer will typically use hyperbole or unnecessary descriptive words that will invalidate the answer.

If the passage reads, John likes red, the trap answer will say something like John’s favorite color is red.

That slight distinction is what creates the pitfall

As far as the sentence completion and vocabulary go, process of elimination and context clues helps best for words whose meaning that are not readily apparent.

If all else false, approximate the meaning of the word using the latin root

Hi, there is no ban on applying to Harvard admissions. It was only a temporary restriction, which has since been overruled by the Supreme Court. So please feel free to apply to Harvard. However, since it is an extremely competitive school, we would be happy to provide profile consulting to help you assess whether you are the right fit for Harvard. Hello, would like to understand my chances at an M7 admit. I'm a male software engineer in India.
Undergrad - Bits Pilani, Computer Science in India. GPA 8.18/10
Work experience - working at Microsoft India as a software engineer since 2021.
Will be around 5 years during 2026 intake.
GMAT - 675 attempt 1, 775 attempt 2.
I had some minor extracurricular activities in college, but nothing too special.

I was not expecting a GMAT score this high, so had only planned for an MBA in India (ISB). But now I would like to understand if I stand a chance at the M7.
Hey, first off, congratulations on the 775 GMAT score! That’s an exceptional result and puts you well above the median/average at all M7 schools. Without knowing too much about your background, here’s a quick breakdown of your profile - your 8.18/10 GPA is a bit below average for M7, but your GMAT will balance it. Another plus for you is that Microsoft is a top-tier brand, and 5 years is ideal for M7 schools. However, Indian male software engineers from Big Tech are one of the most overrepresented pools, so your story, leadership, and impact will need to stand out beyond the brand. Also, lack of good extracurriculars is an area that could hurt you because M7 schools look for leadership, initiative, and impact outside of work as well. So your post-MBA goals and how well you articulate your story in essays, interviews, and recs can really make or break your application. Hope this helps!

Hey, thanks for sharing your profile. It’s genuinely impressive in many ways, and you definitely have the foundation to aim high. An 8.18 GPA from BITS Pilani in Computer Science is a solid academic start, and your 775 GMAT score takes things to another level. That score not only strengthens your academic profile but also makes you stand out in a highly competitive pool. Five years at Microsoft India by 2026 will give you credibility and brand value that top MBA programs respect.

What will matter most now is how you tell your story. Have you taken on leadership roles, driven outcomes beyond just technical delivery, or influenced key projects? These are the kinds of things that show you're not just a great engineer but also someone ready for a business leadership track. You mentioned that your extracurriculars in college weren’t that strong, which is okay, but this is the time to build that side of your profile. Even small, consistent involvement in something you care about like mentoring juniors, volunteering, or leading initiatives at work can go a long way in showing who you are beyond your job. You’ve got a strong shot at an M7 admit, especially if you use the next few months to sharpen your story and show more personal depth.

For a more detailed analysis and guidance tailored to your goals, UniAdvise offers a free 30-minute consultation call to help you plan your next steps. We’ll support you with CV enhancement, profile building, and crafting a standout SOP that reflects your unique strengths.
