Anyone have some insights on if R1 or R2 applicants have an edge? I’ve been lead to believe timing doesn’t matter just the strength of your app, but if there’s less spots available during round two then 😬😬

Your academic profile is in a good place. An 8.18 from BITS Pilani in Computer Science already signals strong fundamentals, and your 775 on the standard GMAT is exceptional. It shows you're more than ready for the academic rigor of an M7 program. What could strengthen this further is reflecting on how you’ve gone beyond the classroom, maybe through teaching, side projects, or interdisciplinary interests that show curiosity and initiative.

Professionally, spending close to five years at Microsoft India gives you a strong platform. You’ve likely developed solid technical depth and worked in high-stakes environments. What will really set you apart now is how you frame your growth. Were there moments you led without a title? Times you influenced product decisions or solved real business pain points? These stories, if positioned thoughtfully, can be powerful. Admissions committees want to see not just where you’ve worked but how you’ve grown and how that maps to your post-MBA goals.

Extracurriculars seem light, but that’s something you can still work on. It doesn’t need to be flashy. Mentoring, volunteering, or leading a small initiative in your community or workplace can show drive and authenticity. M7 schools look for well-roundedness, and this is one area where you can quietly differentiate yourself.

Overall, you're in a strong place. With some intentional leadership framing and personal depth, your profile can absolutely resonate with M7 programs.

For a more detailed analysis and guidance tailored to your goals, UniAdvise offers a free 30-minute consultation call to help you plan your next steps. We’ll support you with CV enhancement, profile building, and crafting a standout SOP that reflects your unique strengths.

Hello, would like to understand my chances at an M7 admit. I'm a male software engineer in India.
Undergrad - Bits Pilani, Computer Science in India. GPA 8.18/10
Work experience - working at Microsoft India as a software engineer since 2021.
Will be around 5 years during 2026 intake.
GMAT - 675 attempt 1, 775 attempt 2.
I had some minor extracurricular activities in college, but nothing too special.

I was not expecting a GMAT score this high, so had only planned for an MBA in India (ISB). But now I would like to understand if I stand a chance at the M7.

R2 has more seats?
I think what he meant is that the majority of applicants apply in Round 2, therefore even if acceptance rate is the same for every round, more applicants/seats will come from Round 2

But no need to worry about that, just apply whenever you are most ready

To my knowledge, Round 1 is best for getting most scholarships. That’s what alumni alumni from other schools also mentioned.

I think most people apply to 8-10 schools to increase chances of admission. Nothing wrong with it, just make sure to have enough time for essays and application fill out as schools have some differences there.

If you’re doing 10 schools, Maybe try to do 2-3 dream schools and 2-3 target/safety schools for each round to space it out and not have too much work within a short period of time

Here are two links for you. First is stats for M7 and Top 15. Second link is free profile evaluation. Just make a post on that forum
