guys, I am working on the Rd 2 application. for the essay: what area of the world are you most curious about and why? if I choose an aspect ( economical, political) is that ok? I cant imagine it refers just specific places. Any insides would be greatly appreciated. thanks. and Happy Holidays!

I think that is OK. They left a fair amount of ambiguity in the question for precisely the sort of thing you're talking about. I considered answering this question myself, but the others were questions that I felt I had better stories for. Good luck!

R2 here as well...

In essay 1 (accomplishments) what is your split between describing an accomplishment and explaining "why you view them..."?

600 words for three accomplishments, basically 200 words per accomplishment. 150 words describing each accomplishment, and then 50 words about why I viewed each as such.

Thanks a lot msday. May I ask you also about word limit - do you know whether HBS is also ok with +10% rule?

I have no idea - all my essays were 2-3 words under the limit...I know, I was obsessive about being under the limit. I would recommend sticking to the limit.

I was around 5 to 10 words more on each essay except one 400 word essay where I was 30 words above the limit.

So, the point is dont ruin your essay for a sentence.... its not worth and ad com understand.

Sorry - last question ;-). Did you limit essay 1 to 1 page? If so did you play with margins?

I single-spaced all my essays with 12-pt Times New Roman font (creative, I know!). Each of my essays was safely under 1 page with default 1" margins.

mine actually spilled over to 2 pages because i structured my essay as 3-200 word mini essays (with section titles and one line break between each). we will have to wait til january to see the final results but i was invited to interview, so i dont think formatting matters too much as long as the content is good/within word limit.

Thanks again guys. I have the same "case" as js - a bit over 1 page.

msday - actually Times New Roman, 12, single-spaced is required by HBS so good that you didn't get creative ;-)

I formatted my essay the same way as 3 separate 200 word essays with titles, so mine was on 2 pages as well. I know people that have done it both ways and are current students so formatting definitely doesn't matter.

Question for the HBS re-applicants -- did you create a new account when re-applying? I tried unsuccessfully to make into HBS late last year, and now when I login, I have no option to re-apply -- just my old submitted application. I then tried to create a new account thinking it's a one account per year issue and a warning pops up that managing two accounts "is more complicated". I thought I'd ask the group here if they had the inside scoop.

Please let me know what you had to do for re-application.

Thanks,
Dominion

Hey guys!

Count me in for R1!

I did my interview in early Dec (and I believe it was a disaster!)

I wonder why this thread is so quiet. Is this what happens when they release all their decisions on a specific date (nothing to drive us crazy and push us to make comments here?)
