Hello is GRE accepted what is the average and cutoff for Q and V ?

dhruvsharma2117 - GRE is accepted. There is no official cutoff, however, the school encourages candidates to submit a GRE score that is at or above the 65th percentile for Q and V.

The average GRE score of the class hasn't yet been officially announced. GMAT average is 690 though, so a (somewhat approximate) conversion of this would be GRE 326.

P.S: If you are applying to HEC, I suggest you take a look at and register for our "HEC Paris Essays Workshop" on 13th Aug Sunday at 6pm IST (2:30pm Paris). Details at bit.ly/admitstreet_hec_workshop

Business schools always compare your GRE or GMAT scores to your demographic average. However, as an Indian applicant from a competitive demographic (Indian male or engineer), it is to your advantage to aim for 10-20 points higher than average. To give you an example, some of the successful yet most overrepresented profiles I worked with who applied to the late rounds at HEC have GRE scores in the 330+ range (the average is perhaps between 315 and 320 for the demographic group). But even if you cannot break the 330 mark, you should try to get a solid score on the quantitative section of the GRE (168 or above would be fantastic). GRE requires much higher calculative precision on the quantitative section than the GMAT due to the nature of the exam, so a high score on the quantitative section can really help your application. Unlike the GMAT, where the verbal section also emphasizes logic, the verbal section of the GRE focuses more on vocabulary variety, which frankly B-schools do not care that much about as long as you can demonstrate your good command of conversational English).

Feel free to connect should you need more insights on the application strategy.

Hi Arvind thank you so much for putting this together, it's very helpful.

Might January intake might be better for those who have a pretty clear focus around their career goals, because they won't be coming back after their internship? If they choose to do a long one?

I'm trying to figure out which option might be better for someone who would need to re recruit after their internship should that not be to their liking.

Also I probably should have asked for this in the beginning but I'm wondering about the housing situation for January intake. I've heard that could potentially be a problem.

MBAPrepCoach - thank you.

I tend to agree that the Jan batch would be the better intake for someone who has some focus area(s) wrt their career goals. They can gain the required skills and potentially complete the course-work within 12 months, post which a 6 month internship can help land a full-time job. There is also a possibility of doing two 3-month internships in this duration, however this might be a bit difficult considering the internship hiring timelines. For someone wanting to explore multiple internships or sectors, Sep (Year) batch is better, as there is a possibility to intern in two waves: May-August (Year+1) or January-June (Year+2). Interning during May-Aug is a bit difficult for the Jan batch (although some do), as internship recruitment happens earlier and the timelines would be too short to both settle in and land a target internship.

Regarding housing: What I have heard from the Housing Committee is that within each intake, the spots in the on-campus housing facilities are allocated on a FCFS basis, so applying early (within each intake i.e. Sep or Jan) can improve chances of your preferred housing. There is no difference between intakes (i.e. Sep vs Jan) though.

Hope this helps.

Arvind

Hi,
just to share some insights with you all. I'm S22 intake so i have 1 term more to go until December.

- HEC Paris has a beautiful campus and as people live there, it helps to create an awesome community. Also considering that our cohort is just 180 in September Intake, as a cohort we are very united.
- Something that caught my attention during my internship and after sharing insights with MBAs from other schools, I can say that almost all of HEC alumns have a excellent profesional experience or extraordinary academic background. Diversity is at its highest level possible and free-riders are almost zero.
- This year was quite tough to find internship but I think it was due to market conditions. Timing for January Intake doesn't help them to be well prepared as some companies recruit as soon as the year start. I think this is applicable for every school that has January Intakes.
- Market conditions are tough, and it is reflected in both internship opportunities and full-time offers.

Hope this helps to everyone.
