With the right narrative (essays + overall application) and a strong GMAT, you can definitely be in the race for .

Aim for GMAT:

- Minimum: 700

One area to be mindful of : candidates from AMIE backgrounds sometimes face challenges in communication/clarity during interviews. That’s something hard to assess over chat.

Overall: possible with the right positioning + GMAT.

Hi SwiftBat,

Your profile has strong elements, particularly your CA qualification and the entrepreneurial experience of running your own practice, which can stand out if positioned effectively. However, your academics are relatively weak. The short stints and your recent role may also raise questions around stability and depth of impact. A strong GMAT score (675+) will be important, especially given the high number of CAs targeting these programs. Ultimately, your overall narrative and how well you connect your past experiences to your post-MBA goals will be critical.

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

SwiftBat
Can you please evaluate my profile and provide some guidance on my chances of getting shortlisted?
Academic Background:
• Class X (CBSE): 8.8 CGPA
• Class XII (CBSE): 91%
• B.Com (Hons), DU SOL: 60%
• Chartered Accountant: 53% (Final)
Professional Experience: 6+ Years
• Articleship (3 years) – Completed from a mid-sized CA firm in Delhi, with core exposure to Audit, Taxation, Accounting, and Finance. (I would also like to understand whether this period is considered as formal work experience for executive programs.)
• Post-Qualification Experience:
1. NatWest Markets (RBS) – Worked for 7 months as a Senior Analyst in Regulatory Reporting (Derivatives), handling trade and transaction reporting.
2. Own CA Practice – Managed and operated my own firm in Delhi for approximately 2 years and 3 months, handling end-to-end client engagements across finance, compliance, and advisory.
3. Current Role – Working as a Credit Manager in Business Banking at one of India’s leading banks for the past 3 months. My role involves credit assessment, financial analysis, and risk evaluation of business profiles.
Test Scores:
• GMAT: Not attempted yet
I am particularly targeting the one-year Executive MBA program at IIM Ahmedabad or Tier 1 B Schools and would value your honest assessment of my profile, along with any suggestions on how I can strengthen my chances.

Hi WorkDrop,

I would need more details about your work experience to provide more specific guidance. Also, it’s important to clarify your post-MBA goals, as your narrative and positioning will be critical—especially since this would be your second MBA. You will need to clearly answer the “why MBA” and “why now” questions. Additionally, aiming for a GMAT score of around 675 or higher will significantly strengthen your chances.

All the Best!

Hi,

Overall, you have a strong profile for PGPX, with a good GRE score, international exposure, and CFA credentials. It would be helpful to understand more about your current role in terms of impact, nature of work, and any leadership responsibilities. I agree that the key will be clearly articulating why you need an MBA at this stage and how it will add value beyond your current position.

All the Best!

Hi people, my stats:
10th: 77%
12th: 79%
B.E (AMIE): 7.89
Age: 40

The above is clubbed with 20 years of glorious service in IAF across multiple domains in both combative and administrative roles.Presently joined a Public Sector bank due to interest in Finance and Banking. I want to upgrade into mid to senior leadership roles in finance avenues, learn new things and make long lasting connections for which I think PGPX via IIM/ISB would act as a catalyst.

Want to know where my profile stands for PGPX? Feedbacks welcome.

My suggestion is that don’t target ISB

Target only IIMs if getting a job after an MBA through campus placement is the plan. 🙂

Did you know that you can get mid senior roles in companies such as JPMorgan, wellsfargo, Morgan Stanley etc. You might already know other juniors/seniors who made it to these US companies.

There is certain quota in US banks reserved for navy/military/armed forces.

Why do you want to do an MBA at this point ? What are you missing ?

Haha! Very interesting story you got there. LLB, CA, MCom and doesn't want finance roles. Finance in ONGC is very different than if you would work in Corporate finance roles or for PE VC firms.

Anyway from a profile standpoint with decent GMAT you can make it to any of the colleges you desire.

Hi SHISHIR86,

Overall, you have a strong profile. Candidates from the armed forces are well represented in these programs, and they often use the MBA as a platform to transition into new careers. Given your exposure to the finance domain, you’re well positioned to pivot into related roles post-MBA.
While the IIMs typically have a slightly higher average work experience, you still have a solid chance at ISB. There are also scholarship opportunities at ISB specifically for candidates from an armed forces background. Aim for a GMAT Focus score of around 675 to remain competitive.

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

Hi NandiniPandya,

Were you also working in a finance role at ONGC? Given that your overall profile is tilted toward the finance domain, you are more likely to be considered for finance-related roles post-MBA, especially since these programs often place candidates into SME-type roles.
That said, several organizations also hire Product Managers within their banking or financial services verticals, so those could be relevant opportunities for you to target. Aim for a GMAT Focus score in the 675 range to stay competitive.
