I have 5 years of experience in Engineering in a small company in the US and last year in project management in Saudi Arabia , and I want to shift to consulting preferably MBB after the MBA. I have 328 GRE score but AWA is low 3.0. Do I have a good chance to be accepted to the Insead MBA program?

Azoozasw39 The criteria for INSEAD evaluations are international focus (think global exposure/work experience), ability to contribute in class (think diversity/unique background), leadership potential, and academic orientation(GRE/GMAT/acads). Then, there are other important factors to consider, such as post-MBA employability and cultural fit. Your GRE score is good, and INSEAD IMO was never really focused on AWA or even an unbalanced verbal score for that matter. As long as your profile is strong, and your quant abilities are good you will stand a chance.

Best wishes

ljas201 The admissions office first tries to find interviewers with similar experiences or backgrounds in your city who can conduct an in-person interview. If that is not possible, they look for the second best option with remote interviews. There may not be many interviewers in your city at this time. You can discuss this with your AO, but if it's possible, you can also ask your interviewers if you can travel to their location/city and meet them in person. Interviews at INSEAD are quite informal, so do not hesitate if you really want to have a face-to-face interview.

hey wise people of GMAT club. So got my allocation for interviewees. Based on geographies of my interviewees it seems my interviews will have to be remote. I have a strong preference for in person. I know that my location has loads of INSEAD alumni . Should I request for a change from AO?

I I just got the same thing and would prefer in person. Is it okay to request?

Given your preference for face to face interviews, it's reasonable to contact the AO to inquire about the possibility of arranging in-person interviews. Expressing your preference and highlighting the local alumni network may facilitate this request, however, be prepared for the possibility that logistical constraints might not allow a change. All the best guys!

Once you have their details, promptly reach out to the alumni to arrange your interviews. Additionally, the email from AO may instruct you to send your application materials, such as your essays and CV, directly to your interviewers to facilitate a comprehensive evaluation. Good luck!

Hi OhmZzZ,

you should reach out to them, not the other way around.

At the same time that you're informed of their names, they are notified that you'll be contacting them. This is the first time they learn about the interview, meaning AOs don't check their availability beforehand. So, when you reach out, they may still decline if they are unavailable. If that happens, don't worry — your AO will assign you new interviewers.

Good luck,
Alex

Hi Azoozasw39 , your profile presents a mix of strengths and challenges for INSEAD. With 5years of experience in engineering at a small U.S. company and one in project management in Saudi Arabia, you bring valuable international exposure, which aligns well with INSEAD’s globally diverse cohort. Your GRE score of 328 is good, but the low AWA score of 3.0 could raise some concerns about your written communication skills (can be compensated by ensuring your essays and recommendations strongly demonstrate your communication ability). While your engineering and project management background demonstrates leadership potential, transitioning to MBB consulting post-MBA will be highly competitive, especially without prior consulting or blue-chip firm experience. To strengthen your application, you shall focus on highlighting leadership, strategic impact, and problem-solving skills in your essays while securing strong recommendations that validate your consulting potential. While you have a decent chance at INSEAD with a well-crafted application, broadening your consulting firm targets beyond MBB could improve your post-MBA career prospects. Azoozasw39 - the international experience and GRE score look good. The AWA is not ideal, but with a strong application, this likely wouldn't cause concerns.

I'd like to understand more details on your profile to assess better e.g. what roles/ functions did you work in, were there promotion(s), did you lead teams, any extracurriculars?

It's also important to have a strong narrative covering your goals, and how/ why INSEAD fits in.

Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Regards,
Arvind

Hi all,
I am planning to apply for Round 1 of the Jan 2026 intake and would love a profile review and some advices related to GMAT score.
I am 30yrs old French male, with a B.B.A in hotel and resort management from top school in the field, GPA of 3.51/4.00. I have a strong international background, having studied and worked in few countries in Asia and USA throughout the last 10 years. Leadership experience includes high level position in luxury hotels managing big operational teams (300+ employees).
I am planning to take my GMAT next week but worry about my quant score. I have taken three practice test (result as below). Would a below 80 quant score deny my chance for application? Or would an application with strong essay make up for this.

Hi manu9 ! Thanks for sharing your profile. Your profile stands out with good international experience, leadership in luxury hospitality, and academic background. However, your GMAT score, especially the quant section, could be a significant hurdle. While your GPA (3.51/4.00) from a top hospitality school and leadership managing 300+ employees demonstrate strong credentials, your GMAT quant score remains significantly below competitive levels for top programs. Given that most leading business schools expect quant scores above the 60-80th percentile, improving this area can be crucial. Your verbal strength is a plus, but a 615 total GMAT score may limit options at top schools. It is highly advisable to retake the GMAT with a focus on improving the quant section or explore the GRE as an alternative if enhancing your quant score proves challenging. Some schools also allow candidates to demonstrate quantitative skills through work experience or additional coursework, which could help mitigate concerns. Additionally, a well-crafted optional essay explaining your quantitative strengths in a business setting (financial analysis, data-driven decision-making, budgeting, etc.) can further strengthen your case. Depending on your final GMAT score, a strategic school selection approach will be important, balancing reach and realistic options. With a strong application, compelling career goals, and a good GMAT score, you can maximize your chances of securing a spot in a top MBA program, as we have seen one of our applicants who got offers from NUS and INSEAD with a 640 GMAT. We would love to learn more about your profile in detail, to assess how well you can showcase compelling stories from your experience and determine your best-fit schools. Prepare well and all the very best for your GMAT exam. Please feel free to book a profile evaluation call.

Please feel free to take a look at this BLOG and Webinar session.

Bjr Manu a little confused about your last quant score, if it’s 35, that would be 24th percentile no?

Hi manu9 I have known INSEAD to be one of those schools that genuinely worry about candidates' quant scores. The program is very rigorous, and it is not unusual for some students to struggle academically(in Finance courses), leaving the staff in a weird situation, and pushing these students to work hard so they can pass. So yes, your 35th percentile is not a good reflection. I understand you have certain strengths in that you come from an unusual background in hospitality management and have a lot of international work experience, but you will have to address your low score, maybe in the optional essay, by telling the school how you are planning to improve (or maybe that you are taking active steps already). If you don’t address this at all, it could come across as being less self-aware.

Your Verbal & DI score looks pretty good. Try to improve in Quant. Overall score will improve a lot.
