Does ISB take blind interviews?

Not exactly. When mine happened, they knew everything kn my application. It was open right in front of them. Except my GMAT. The GMAT is something which is deliberately kept from the interviewer to keep him/her unbiased I guess.

I may be completely wrong, but I have different views on this.
I think they have our GMAT scores also, the official ones which we upload.
My interviewer knew how many times I have given the GMAT.
And I mentioned my score in the re applicant essay.

Thanks guys. Relieved to hear that 720 is a good enough score. Though I know that 720 may turn out to be an obstacle, I have no choice but to apply now. Next two months are gonna be really tough for me. Retake, applications and Toefl. Just can't stop myself from reciting the lines from the movie the pursuit of happyness "Oh Lord please don't move that mountain, give my strength to climb it." :)

If you are not from IT pool, then 720 will not be an obstacle for sure :)

why do you need to take TOEFL?
which schools are you planning to apply to?

All the best!!

Unfortunately(or not ??), I'm from IT pool. I will apply to US based schools for R2 so I guess I would need a TOEFL score as well.

Nope TOEFL not reqd for US schools. Check with the schools. Don't worry about GMAT either. You have other things to worry about on your application.

You confused me gmatbugsme84. TOEFL is an english language test and yet it is not required by US based schools. Can you please shed more light on how to ask business schools about this. Sorry for this naive question but I'm a newbie here. Other day, I was reading somewhere about getting connected with adcom of schools. Can you please suggest how do you connect to adcom ?

Need some advice here:

I have a low AWA score on GMAT. Can I report my TOEFL score to ISB to help overcome any judgments on my writing abilities?
Again, my TOEFL is an acceptable 110, but a good 28 on the Writing section.

That would be a good idea. In addition, you can consider these:

1. Pay attention to your essays because they are also proof of your writing skills
2. Use the optional essay to address this (perceived) shortcoming - talk about your TOEFL score in this essay and focus on the writing part, but keep it short and to the point.
3. Plan and execute well for the one word essay that you will need to write before the interview (if you get shortlisted); you will have over half an hour, so no need to rush it.

Hey Tarun,

TOEFL is required by the schools if you have not completed your undergrad course in English.
There is a section in all the application where you can enter the same and upload a proof.
Usually it is their on the transcript or the degree. If not, you can request your college to provide you with a document and they would do it.

Of the schools which I know, I think only Haas is the one which has a mandatory demand for TOEFL.

Regarding connecting with the ADCOMS, i think sending them a mail about your query is the best option. For example ISB, you can mail them and ask ask your query or even ask them for a time slot to discuss your queries over the call.

Hope this helps

I would not suggest you to write about this in the optional essay.

The essay wants information that will significantly affect your consideration for admission.
Your essays, the one word essay and your score in the VA part should be enough to overcome your low AWA score.

Agree with Ankur, you need not write a separate essay about the AWA. You are fine if its upto 3.5- 4, but do write well thought out essays and at the stage of interview, a good one word essay.
Your essays should have clarity of thought/ argument, they should be well structured and they should help the reader (adcom) reach a conclusion about you (positive, positive, positive- all the way!)

Hi RG800,
I had called up ISB regarding this. The concerned person strongly said that we don't need the TOEFL from Indian Applicants. I have a 5 on my AWA(Not that great), and 30 on Toefl-W, so thought should do the same.

I received the same response. I guess I shouldn't bother with TOEFL then. If I'm able to attend the admissions webinar today, I'll ask this question.
In any case, 5 is a decent score. I don't know why you bothered taking the TOEFL :-D
