About Me:
I am a very curious and empathetic person, who loves meeting new people. I have always been good at academics. In college, I had an excellent GPA of 8.81 with multiple PoRs at a university level and at a department level. In 2020, I got an admit to IIM Indore, but I rejected it because I wasn't sure why I wanted to pursue an MBA. In 2021, I took a risk and switched from a stable multi-national consulting company to an Indian startup in the crypto space, in order to work in a fast-paced environment and gain product-business experience. For the past 1 year, I have been leading the analytics pod for a new investment platform in Indian Stocks. Spearheaded the analytics team during the 0 to 10 journey of the product, and now embarking on the 10-100 journey.
I love playing the guitar, and as a former quizzer I read the newspaper everyday.
Career Goals:
My short-term goal is to gain relevant experience in product and business. My long term goal is to start a company of my own. For me, the two major reasons for pursuing an MBA are - better exposure, stronger network, and the brand name.
Any helpful advice or do's and don'ts are totally welcome. Also, since my GMAT score is absymally low, please help me with a target score on FE.
Thanks in advance.
Hey,
austin316Your profile provides a strong basis for a competitive application, especially with your excellent academic background and relevant work experience. Your high score in B.Tech. demonstrates the kind of academic excellence that ISB looks for. Additionally, being placed first in both HSC and SSC can further support your academic prowess. Yet, your GMAT score is below average at 680, which is not good enough for ISB’s standards.
You meet the minimum requirement in terms of work experience, with nearly 5 years. Your current position, where you lead analytics, is particularly relevant to your career goals in product and business. This diverse experience, coupled with your internships, showcases your adaptability and breadth of skills.
Your extracurricular activities significantly enhance your profile. Additionally, your involvement in CSR activities focused on the emancipation of orphaned children reflects your commitment to social causes. Winning multiple inter-school quiz competitions highlights your intellectual curiosity, while your administrative roles, such as being a student member of the curriculum update committee and head of the student society in your department, further illustrate your leadership capabilities.
In order to improve your application, a number of strategies can be considered. The first approach involves concentrating on GMAT preparation with a target score of 645–655. Use specific examples and metrics where possible in your application essays, focusing on your leadership roles and the impact you made. Write an engaging personal story that reflects growth and overcomes difficulties. In addition, networking is important; get some ISB alumni perspective on the application process as well as the program itself through webinars or information sessions to better understand their culture and values.
Also, stress your extracurricular activities by elaborating on why you initiated these projects and what skills you gained from them. Think about how you will contribute to the ISB community, such as through clubs or initiatives that you desire to head. Clearly articulate your short-term and long-term career goals in your essays, explaining how an MBA from ISB will help you achieve these aspirations.
