Planning to do an MBA because-

I’ve hit a glass ceiling in my current role. The position I aspire to do not exist within my organization. While switching firms in the same industry might seem like an option, it would mean starting over and lengthening my journey to reach my career goals. I believe pursuing an MBA from a reputable college is the most effective way to bridge this gap and accelerate my career progression.

I am planning to give another attempt at GMAT. What kind of score would actually land me an interview and will differentiate my profile amongst the others? Also line of questions should I expect as I am not into research. My role is more into planning and devising the investment strategy. Helping my co-founder do the same for his clients. I am also involved into testing IT projects and L&D decision making. Thanks!

Hi Neetikasah

You will certainly land an interview call even with your current GMAT score provided your craft a compelling application (without being very honest as you have been in this post 😛 ) Try to find better reasons to influence admission committee and compel them to take interest in you. The aspirations should be aligned with what school can deliver and your abilities should be what school is looking for in its future candidates

However, improving GMAT score might prove to be advantageous so it’s worth a serious shot.

I think it’s not a best source to practice tests.

My preference is as mentioned below

1) Official tests 3, 4, 5 & 6
2) Expert’s global tests (for Q and DI specially)
3) GMAT Club tests
4) Nothing else.

X - 9.8 GPA
XII - 91%
B.Com - 8.62 GPA
Work Ex - 2 years 9 months in a Commercial Real Estate and Mortgage Banking company.
Got 2 promotions, won Best Employee award, automated tasks for cost savings, trained and mentored 3 juniors.
Right now, I am working towards setting up business along with my friend.
Social activities - I tutor few students, also I’m covering education expenses for 2 girls.
Extra curricular - I have recently started a online news blog and I have published few articles.

I took GMAT practice test yesterday to check where i stand and scored Verbal - 86, Quant - 76 and DI - 77.

Any suggestions to improve my profile, better my GMAT scores etc are welcome. TIA

dhilavikash, You have a very unique experience. Not many station controllers and train operators apply for ISB PGP, so your profile will be different. The high years of experience will add to that uniqueness.

There is good chance to get into ISB. But also explore IIMA, IIMC etc.

Score around 645 will be needed. (Nothing is safe as such, but generally this score helps)

You are over experienced for ISB so that further put a limit to your chances.

While with your 7 years work ex a GMAT score of 645 would have been good, I think you need to reflect your potential to study by getting slightly higher score than 645.

You are instead better fit for IIM-A, B, C and L

so If I were to recommend, I would say try for IIM’s executive program as primary target..

vinuthnaaa, Good profile. Rarely people continue with civil engineering core after graduation. You have not only been outstanding in your academics at Mahindra University but also you have a great number of certifications and research papers in the field of sustainability and others. You have in parallel developed the data and language skills too, impressive. IGBC is a well known organization and this experience will definitely be valued.

But since the marks are not that high and Graduation college is not tier I, in addition to the fact that your work experience is not that high, a GMAT of minimum 645 will be needed. But you should aim as high as possible. But anything less than 645 will make the chances of selection much more difficult.

GRE score is decent, ideally a 325+ would have been better. Try to enhance if possible, otherwise selection can happen at this score with this profile given a decent effort and some luck.

Thanks Viktor28, for sharing this. Banking client do make life tough, so definitely you will have good story points. Try to work on your GMAT for now and aim somewhere around 655-665 preferably. And this is mostly because of lower work experience years and not the quality or kind of work. Best of luck for your application.

Hi, I have recently given my GMAT and got 615. I am planning to re-attempt since the scores aren’t up to the mark. Should I send my scores to selected schools now? Will I be able to send it again to the same schools after 1 month?
