Hello ISBeacon

I graduated from a tier-2 University in Odisha (KIIT University) with a B.Com(H) degree in 2022. Coming to my Mocks honestly majority of my mocks scores were in the range of 595-635 (4/6). I think, I would have to prep and practice more to get a better score.

Also I want to get into consulting post MBA.

Thanks,
Aniket

Hello,

Is 655 with a work experience of 3.5 Years in a B2B Centaur in Strategy team (Office of COO) good enough? Or should I take GMAT again?

Profile bottom-line summary:
- XII: 85.6%
- UG (Commerce | Account & Finance Major): 8.92/10
- 3 years of AIESEC (NPO present in 120+ countries)
- Internships at ICICI Securities & Red Bull in UG
- 2 years of local NGO
- Founded the finance & investment club in UG

Looking for experts advice, not sure how the geopolitical paradigm shift will affect R1 for Co'27?
AniketK2000, before suggesting that you retake the GMAT, I would like to know how much you were scoring in official mocks before your attempt? If you were scoring above 655, it might not be a bad idea for you to reattempt the GMAT once; after all, you already have a very decent 655 and have nothing to lose in your reattempt.

You have quite a decent profile Aniket. However, you have not mentioned which college you did your undergrad from. Being in the strategy team is a definite plus. Also I do not get a sense of your post ISB goals.

Hi admitSreet,

I believe I would need to put in significantly more effort to improve my score further, especially since my mock scores were consistently lower than what I achieved in my official attempt.

Professionally, I’ve worked at a B2B SaaS company called HighRadius. I initially joined as an intern, converted to a full-time role as an Associate Analyst, and was later promoted to Analyst and then Senior Analyst. While I’ve led several projects recently, I do not currently hold a formal managerial position.

Please let me know your thoughts on my profile and scores.

Thanks,
Aniket

Hello AniketK2000 - What was the sectional split of your GMAT, and was it in line with your expectations/ mocks?

If you expected to score higher and/ or foresee an improvement if you were to retake, a retake would be worth it.

Work-ex looks interesting, but we'd need more details to assess better e.g. which companies, career progression/ promotions, etc.

All the best!

Hello AniketK2000,

Since you have some time in hand, it will make sense for you to retake the GMAT. A 655 is under the ISB average and an improvement will definitely help your chances.

All the best!

I've asked them twice on two separate occasions. Filled the feedback form twice, yet they didn't get back to me. I wrote to Mr. Amit Tyagi on LinkedIn, awaiting his response.

They are doing it one-by-one. You will hear from them.
Hii, the feedback is usually not really going to help add too much perspective. Typically 3 reasons for the rejection if its a reject before interview 1) Clarity of Goals 2) Score and 3) Understanding of the program and your ability to benefit from it/contribute to your peers. If its after the interview the cue lies in an honest evaluation of the discussion. Regards, Neha Iyengar ISB'08, MBA Head Oncourse

The expectation is that number of applicants this year might be overwhelming.
655 is pretty decent score to apply to ISB If you don’t see much scope to improve it from hereon.

I would say, that you should start drafting the first draft of essays so that you have some ground level idea about your storyline of essays. If you are considering exploring the professional support then it’s in your best interest to expedite finalising the consultant so that you have ample time discussing and refining story and finding holes in it in advance if any.

At the same time, make sure that you prepare for interview while drafting essays because the explanation of what you write in essays would be the primary content to be discussed during interview.

Let me tell you that 655 is decent if you can ensure a well written essays and a good interview performance.

WA@znf186
Hey Neha, can your score still play a role in your rejection if you had received the interview invite but couldn’t convert it?
I may not be the person you originally directed this question to, but consider this an additional perspective from another expert:

Yes, below-par scores can be a reason for rejection — especially if your score, combined with your interview performance and overall profile, didn’t stand strong enough against competing candidates.

This year I helped one candidates converting ISB PGP with 625 GMAT score with 2 years consulting background in Bains and 2 years experience in family business because his interview skills were good. and this conversion came in third round... Surprising no???

Another candidate with 705valso got in even with a potential incorrect response during interview. So it’s a complete package of your application that works in larger picture.

AniketK2000 - thanks for the updates.

A 655 is kind of on the fence - it might or might not work, depending on the competitive pool in Round-1 and your overall profile.

If you want to put in your best foot forward at each step (which you should), try to improve it. If the score doesn't improve despite your best efforts, applying with this score can be considered.

Needless to say, having a robust application (CV, essays, LoR) and interview are important too.

Arvind

@WA@kje69 - you might find this success debrief from an ISB re-applicant helpful.

In short, he improved his score, applied in R1 (vs R2 earlier), strengthened his narrative (career goals) and interview performance. He got in this year.

Arvind

Not in my experience. ISB is easy to convert if your story has been well thought out and the interview was in your control. If you left loose ends which they caught on too that’s when rejects happen.
