Why is this thread so dead? How are you guys approaching the TOC question? Seniors, what would you suggest? Treading the off beat path and make a presentation or just go for something simple & sober?

Hmm.. I was wondering the very same thing.

and to be frank I'm not certain that I grasp the question entirely . The media/art should be used to only supplement the TOC or can we submit a video of sorts INSTEAD of the TOC?

I thought everything was converted into PDF format so any animation or video would be lost. You'll have to check that, of course, but I also did a normal table of contents while using publisher to make it a bit better looking. I also used it to show my personality so my chapter titles and sub titles were a mix of funny things or jokes and accomplishments.

I myself am quite confused with the question, given 500 words and the nature of what a traditional TOC looks like is completely opposite. One indicates going into details, other indicates that we should be crisp in our points.

There's a fine balance between elaborating in more detail and being succinct. There is purposely a limit to all business school applications because a) adcoms do have thousands of these to review, and b) it requires that you select the accomplishments and factors that YOU find most important. Part b) will become important as you continue along in the process as well, because you will have to put together job applications with resumes and cover letters in which you will once again have to pick and choose what stories and accomplishments to highlight.

I've found that many of my classmates here at Johnson are equally if not more accomplished than myself and I know that everyone's having a hard time of refining their resumes and top accomplishments. This type of constraint is something that continues well beyond the business school application.

And so my advice to all of you applying, take a look at your ENTIRE application. Take a holistic approach to the entire process and make the best use of every opportunity and every section because space is limited. Also, keep in mind that quality trumps quantity in this scenario. You may have over 100 really great accomplishments in your lifetime, but make sure you filter out and choose the ones that are the most relevant, the most noteworthy, and the most important to you. Lastly, I'd advise that you try and show your IMPACT. You'll find that MBA recruiters are looking for leaders and people that can get things done. Adcoms are looking for the same thing and so make sure that your application also shows how your presence affected the organizations that you were involved in.

:gl all!

I'd say that once you start writing the TOC, you'll realize that 500 are not that many and they will fly by quickly in chapter titles and subtitles.

I reached 400 quite easily. After doing some fine tuning, I'm very close to the word limit.

BTW, just 1 week and 1 day until the R1 deadline, hope everyone's with the final touches of the application!

Hi guyz,
I have created a web-page for the table of contents essay, but the webpage is not responsive on the cell phone screen, however the webpage works properly on the desktop browsers. Will that be fine or the adcoms check the webpage on their cellphones as well. I have already sent a mail to the school but haven't received a reply yet. Anyone having any idea on this?

Guys,

My application status, which was shown as complete earlier, now shows as 'Incomplete' with comments from interviewer as 'TOEFL Waiver Denied'. I have completed my undergraduate degree from a institute where primary mode of instruction was English and also, I have been working in Singapore for last two years so that qualifies for waiver on the basis of work experience as well. What do you guys suggest, I should do?

Hello!

How about on an iPad/tablet screen? Some schools only use tablets to go through the admissions process. I'm not sure about Johnson, but this may be the case, too.

If it shows on an iPad screen, I'd be comfortable with the website. Otherwise, I'd rather have a confirmation from adcom first.

I'm sorry, I can't really help you with your question. Did you contact admissions? If you sent an email and they haven't replied yet, I would just call them on Monday/Tuesday, since the deadline for R1 is next Thursday!

Did you specifically ask for a toefl waiver and does your diploma state that the method of instruction was english? You have to request a toefl waiver, it is not granted automatically.

Guyz another question. Might sound a bit silly, but as I am going through the final round of review of my application just wanted to be sure. I have created a web page for TOC question. There is a box to submit text if one has made a normal table of contents and there is an option to upload if someone has gone for ppt or pdf format. So in my case I need to provide the url of my webpage. So should I mention the url in the text box? as there is no other option given for putting up the url. Any suggestions?

Hi 20MBA15,

In application section of Test Scores, one can select whether they qualify for TOEFL Waiver. If yes, we can select qualifying criteria as 'Education', 'Work Experience' or 'Both'. I had selected both but even then was denied waiver. Have dropped a mail to them with university URL to confirm and grant waiver.
