Just a quick question, after Part 2 is submitted and I have already completed my alumni interview, is there anything else to really do that can help my cause at Kellogg? Just seems like an inordinate amount of time to wait (until March). Any suggestions or stories (good or bad) of what people have done in the past?
Sit and wait...trying to do more wont help you at all but could easily hurt if you are a little too aggressive. They roll out admissions so its possible to hear well before the deadline.

Has anyone on the R1 waitlist tried contacting admissions yet? Any tips? Thanks!

I actually just called the admissions office a few minutes ago, but was unable to get through to my waitlist-contact (didn't know I had one!). I'll try again tomorrow or later this week, but I don't have any significant updates to report to them. I'm just calling to ask if there's any specific additional info Kellogg was looking for, and to reiterate my interest. I'm still toying with the idea of mentioning that I've been accepted at a peer program, but would really like to matriculate at Kellogg. Not sure if this is a good idea ... thoughts anyone?

I wouldn't suggest bringing up the fact that you were accepted elsewhere. It won't improve your chances at all since the decision whether to accept someone to school A is completely independent of getting accepted at school B. "Fit" is too much of a factor in admissions for the adcom to admit people based on their acceptance at a different school.

Rather, focus on explaining why Kellogg is your top choice and that you're still very interested in attending Kellogg.

Is it just me or are Kellogg's essays EASILY the toughest of the top schools? Every time I work on them I get flabbergasted.

I feel like it's asking:

Define the color blue, without mentioning any other colors. How does blue symbolize what you will gain at Kellogg? Further, how will this understanding impact your classmates? (600 words)

Its sucks that I want to go to Kellogg so bad :( Jealous of all the admits...

Amen Bro,
Kellogg's essays are time intensive and soul searching exercises. Some students and admission pundits recommend to reserve more time for Kellogg's essays. Some people start with their Kellogg application first to gain essay synergy whereas other save it for the later stage when they are warmed up with essay writing process. Kellogg's essays toughest among my shortlisted Bschools.

Couldnt agree more. I finished GSB and HBS pretty quickly. I still have 50% of my kellogg essay to write and only 7 days left. I should probably be freaking out more than i am.

For those admitted in round 1, congrats! I have created an admitted students thread for admit-specific discussion: admitted-to-kellogg-class-of-2013-thread-106953.html

Thanks boogs!

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like they are pretty straightforward. I think the 4th one is a bit tricky because I don't really like any of the choices, but the first 3 are really easy:
1. Why MBA? Why now? Why Kellogg?
2. Talk about your leadership
3. Tell us how awesome you are from the perspective of someone else.

If you want to talk about difficult, try Booth's PowerPoint with no guidance whatsoever. I am only applying to those two schools, though, so maybe most others are easier.

Just hit the submit button on my application.
Phew... I am not sure how well I've written my essays but at least I am relieved now that I am done with the application.

I was wondering.. I sumbitted Part 1 of the application on Dec 14th but still havent been contacted by anyone from Kellogg to schedule an interview. Should I be getting worried?

I indicated Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) as the place I want to interview at even though I can probably interview at any location in the Middle East. Does it make sense to write to the school and let them know? or should I just sit back and wait?

I don't use admissions consultant for personal and financial reasons. But if I did, it would be for the Kellogg package.

I didn't apply to Darden, but D's essays look like a walk in the park. No disrespect intended.

I heard from a poster that IMD application is a beast.

My guess is that they're going to wait til they receive Part 2 to schedule interviews--there has to be a decent number of people who submit Part 1 then don't complete Part 2 on time for any number of reasons. I submitted Part 1 around December 10 but haven't heard anything either, so don't worry--especially given the fact that Kellogg interviews everyone who wants an interview.

I just looked at the Darden essay questions. You're right they seem to be easier to answer and there are only 2 500 word essays... I'm almost done with the LBS essays. They were not easy either...

Hi Bseb,

I concur that LBS essays are tough, R2 applicant for Kellogg and LBS here. I finished my LBS application last week. I found that parts of essay 1 and 2 were challenging. Don't get me started with the LBS interview format.

Good luck.

Tough to walk the line of talking about how awesome you are without coming off cocky/arrogant/douchey. I think i also struggled with the app because i dont know any current kellogg students. Talked to alot of HBS and stanford kids about their expriences, but Kellogg i mostly had to pull from online resources. I guess all we can do is submit our best app and see what happens.

I also submitted my Part 1 around dec 10 and havent heard yet. I imagine there was not much movement around the holiday break.

well i found Darden essay 2 the toughest.....and till a certain extent biased towards candidates who would have suffered some kind of setback during the last 2 years.....

On the other hand i enjoyed writing the Kellogg essays essay 4 was probably the toughest ... followed by essay 3 which i must say i have thoroughly enjoyed writing. I must say im an international applicant and writing is not my strongest forte!

Me too, I am loving writing essay 3. I am drawing on three anecdotes and tying them to Kellogg.
