hey guys - after the interview, do we need to sign-off / 'check a box' somewhere that we have completed the interview?
So a very long answer to a short question.
There is no 'box' to check. Once your interview is complete, the interviewer fills out a fairly in depth report. It your interview was on campus, turn around on this report is usually within a week or two. If you interviewed off campus, then its just a matter of how quickly the interviewer gets around to it. They are encouraged to get them in quickly, but it doesn't always happen.
Assuming that the interview was the last piece of your application outstanding, your file will be moved to the complete pile where it will be picked up and reviewed by an admissions reader. Keep in mind that every application for an applicant that is ultimately accepted will have been read by a student on the admissions committee, a full time staffer, and Beth Fly (Dean of Admissions). Point being, it can take a while.
Another important thing to remember as you are nervously waiting for that phone call in December is that timing of completion of your interview (thus completion of your application) does not directly corelate to when your application will be read and how quickly it will go through the reading process. The students selected to be admissions readers go through a very intense screening and training process, and are purposefully selected to represent the diversity of culture and back ground that exists at Kellogg. So why am I saying this? Often times, going through the reading process requires colaboration between two or more student readers. Take my application for example. I was in the military and then public sector defense consulting before Kellogg. Let's say my packet is picked up by a student reader named Sally, who, prior to Kellogg was a school teacher. Do you really think she is going to have any idea what I'm talking about when in one of my essays I talk about how one of my greatest accomplishments was recieving a certain award in the military for optimizing a weapon's calibration program? My guess is no. But will Joe, who was in the Marine Corps before Kellogg and also an admissions reader know? For sure.
I guess what I am trying to say in all of this, is that December will be stressful for sure, and, as much as you may want to read into why you haven't heard anything back yet from admissions, the reality is that there is a lot of randomness in the process. I will say that from the folks that I know well who are both student interviewers and readers, I can tell you in full confidence that process is very organized, sound, and fair.
aak 1985, I know you weren't implying this with the box checking comment, but just for everyone's sake, every part of your application, and every step in the admissions process is important. Just because everyone gets an interview, doesn't mean that the interview should be viewed as checking a box. It definitely matters. Kellogg as a whole is about community and the culture we create. The entire admissions process is about bringing people to Kellogg that will help this culture grow.
Sorry for the essay. Hope this helps.
