Not sure if this question has already been asked earlier on this thread:

Has anyone answered any of the Sloan 3 essays with anecdotes that date back further than 3 years and got accepted to Sloan? Thanks.

I don't know, but I wouldn't try it. To put it bluntly, if you can't come up with three stories of note from the last three years, you're probably looking at a ding no matter what. Use the cover letter for an incredible story outside of 3 years.

MIT Sloan explicitly states that they are not interested in your career goals, so keep that in mind when you're evaluating whether they belong in your application. In my opinion, if your career goals are consistent with the theme of your application, it can be very effective to tie your these goals into the end of a sentence. Keep in mind, you shouldn't do this to check a box or win them over with how noble your goals are. You should only add this information if it strengthens your story without being the center of attention.

At the end of the day, it's going to be your judgement call as to whether you should include the information.

Good luck :)

It's the hardest application and its very hard to make a decision on that thing. I am an MD/PhD and spent 12 years for my education. MIT is there to help people like me to get into the business word, how can I avoid presenting my goals.

Just read the 2009 and 2010 applicants threads. A lot of helpful tips in there. Time to get started on those essays...

Put me down for R1!

I will be using the supplemental essay to address my unique qualifications that they skip over in the application.

This was a helpful quote from the "MIT Sloan Admissions Tips" at BW:
Quote:
Socem: Is it appropriate to talk about leadership positions held during undergraduate college when that may have been four years in the past?

JulieStrongAtMIT: In the essays section, we require that the examples are more recent. However, we have a supplemental section that you can use to tell us something else about yourself, and depending upon what the leadership position was it might be appropriate to include it on your résumé.

At one of the information sessions the Admissions person indicated that we should take advantage of the supplemental essay. Perhaps that means to definitely write something rather than leave it out? I'm planning on using it to try and explain my terrible GPA.

I chose not to use the optional essay. I didn't feel like I was missing any big pieces of my story, so it never really entered my mind.
