A quick question about the essays. When it says "defined, expected, established, or popular" do we have to give an example of a time when we went beyond all the 4 or just any one of these 4? Asking because I have examples of a time when I went beyond what was defined/expected. I don't think I went beyond what was popular.

Yeah, I think logical disjunction applies (you just need to satisfy at least one of the four criteria) to answer the question.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logical_disjunction

Exclusive disjunction (A or B and (not both A or B)) also works since at least one of the criteria is used.
Even for GMAT Club, this is a pretty nerdy answer :)

Heh sue me; I'm a math/CS/finance major. :P

Does anyone know the exact date when Round 1 invites start coming out? Last year I think they started making invitations in the first week of December.

Dec 17th is a potential ding day for R1 this year. You better not get a mail from Sloan on the 17th.

I am sure MIT would be sending "Find out about MIT Sloan...." advertising emails that day to make us all even more nervous.

Anyone know if MIT usually emails or calls for interview invites? I'm leaving the country on the 15th... getting nervous!

I don't think schools call the applicants for interview invitations, only upon acceptance. I think we will receive email notifications, at least I hope so.

That is the drop dead date for notifications about acceptances or rejections...has no bearing on interview invites and dings.

Well it is almost 2 months before the final notification date.

Looking at the average from other schools, one should estimate that MIT should complete most of the interviews by second week in January - which means they should spend a month or so on interviews itself. Based on that - I would not be surprised to see invites go out randomly starting second week in December

Any current student from MIT here who can validate the hypothesis?

Hello everyone,

I'm a R2 applicant. I wanted to ask you guys for some advice. I don't know if this has been mentioned before but did anyone use any of the three essays to write about something personal, not work-related? I want to use one of the essays to write about overcoming a major physical handicap but I'm not sure if MIT is the right place for that kind of "warm, fuzzy" type of essay.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm pretty confused/torn.

Thanks so much, everyone!

Last year's first invite on GMAT Club came out December 3, the year before that they came out December 8. So some people might receive invites this week.

lagsantiago,

Where did you find this piece of information? I thought invites would be released from the first week of December.
