Are invites usually sent out in the mornings/afternoons? Taking into account the info session taking place this morning and that it's already friday afternoon, i guess we will have to wait until at least monday. did anyone go to the info session and have anything to share??

I dropped by the information session and I think I was the only RD1 applicant. Everyone else was either RD2 potential applicants or people interested in applying next year. There was not much new information, majority of the stuff has been covered on this thread.

There was quite a bit of discussion on the cover letter, basically do not spend 3-4 paragraphs on your post-mba job, or why MIT, or a specific class. Focus on accomplishments (as the cover letter asks), spending a paragraph on your post-mba goal and MIT at the end probably will not hurt. It is your chance to really make an impression. On the other essays, focus more on why you did what you did..and not just on the result. In the resume, focus more on quantifiable results.

They will be reviewing our apps on an ipad and not printing them on papers. If that is not living upto their track record on sustainability I don't know what is :)

Apologies in advance for the VERY long post.

I'll be closing the R1 roll call this weekend (for statistics tracking, to avoid a positive skew with late announcers who only post once they receive an invite/admit). That's not to say we don't want to hear from someone if they get an invite/admit -- participation is certainly encouraged. This is purely for stats.

Thanks RogerDodger, I think this will make for a very accurate and interesting picture of the applicant pool. I applied R1 and the more I think about it, the more pessimistic I am about my chances.

MIT seems to stress work-related contributions more than anything else by far, which I did not emphasize in my essays. The students I met at campus were smart but also very stressed, and the vibe was not quite as collaborative or friendly as other schools I have visited.
