As someone with 7+ years of work experience, relevant to goals and industry, I will politely say that’s not true.

I was just dinged.

Waitlisted.

Indian with GRE 318. Engineer from a top Indian uni, 5.5 years of work ex with varied roles, visible growth, fully Working in japan since graduation, speak japanese, well defined career goals, part of sports Clubs in uni, Social activities. Still rejected after interview. Seems like my average GRE score was not good enough.

For Indian applicants who would be reading this in future. Apply in R1 only. R2 is basically R3 in disguise. Unless you have a T10 level profile and applying to a T30 school, not point in applying in R2.

Also, like I said before the Interview Process is just a sham, I got an invite the next day of submitting my application. So don’t think too much before appearing for one. It’s just an exercise they do to train their candidates. If you speak English I think that’s all the evaluation they do.

These are trying to protect their yield. They won’t be moving the wailtlist unless a super high score comes in.

Even the video essay questions and the KIRA are probably geared towards that.

It’s kinda weird I got into rice with $ but waitlisted here I feel like there are in the same range I don’t know what the differentiator is
