Hey guys, my name is Sanjana and I currently live in Bangalore, India.
I have been offered admission into the Strategy and International Management Programme at St. Gallen (St Gallen SIM) and the MIM programme at INSEAD.
They are both extremely prestigious colleges and I'm having some trouble deciding between them. St Gallen does not have an employment report and given that I'm not from the area and do not have any German knowledge, I'm worried about my prospects. But the programme is very well ranked and has outstanding reviews.
INSEAD is known around the world and has a well-established brand name, and additionally, its career services are supposed to be excellent. However, this would be the first MIM batch for INSEAD and as such I don't have any employment stats or alumni reviews to rely on.
My post MIM goal is to enter consulting.
I'm trying to make a decision between these two colleges and any input is welcome and appreciated
Thank you in advance for your advice!
Dear Sanjana,
Congratulations on your offers for these two excellent and prestigious programmes.
I would like to share my thought with you, although I do not have specific advice.
INSEAD is a well-established brand name as you said, which may prove advantageous in the consulting job-hunting all over the world. In the consulting sector is one of the most known business schools, as you probably know there are unique deadlines for INSEAD MBA graduates in some consulting companies. However, we do not know if the MiM programme will gain an equal reputation. Moreover, the fact that it is going to be the first MiM class may have some negative consequences, e.g. organising issues.
St Gallen offers a great and established program. St Gallen is one of the best in Switzerland, but what happens outside of German-speaking countries? I do not know.
Moreover, without knowing German it will be extremely difficult to land a consulting job within this area. In case you haven't done so already, you could ask the school for some specific statistics on that matter - career prospects for international students.
I would like to add that I am an EU admitted applicant for the SIM programme but I have no idea about the INSEAD MiM.
It is a difficult choice. Hopefully, someone with more specific knowledge on the matter will add some information.
