Seem to be a little late joining in...but yup I am one of the students admitted to tippie for the class of 2017. Got in through the one and done process in September with GA and 80% scholarship. If there are any more admitted students around let me know.

Congratulations on your success. I will attend the next one and done event. Any tips regarding the interview? What type of questions are asked? I am a bit tensed as it will be my first interview.

Would like to know your profile as well :)

The interview is quite straightforward to be honest. They ask pretty much the same standard set of B school interview questions - tell me something about you, your leadership experience, why MBA, why TIppie, what motivates you, an ethical situation and how did you deal with it etc etc. Asked a couple of situational questions as well - such as what are the 2 strategic decisions that you would take as the CEO of company and why. So pretty much follows the same route with a couple of curveballs thrown in and if you are confident and clear about your choices then it shouldn't be too difficult to crack. Honestly the only thing I will suggest is just be clear and concise about your answers - do not say something for the sake of saying something.

My profile is pretty standard - Indian, IT, male with 3.5 years WE in IBM. GMAT - 710 (48, 40), decent ECs but an extreemely bad GPA (and I guess that's why I didn't get the 100% scholarhsip).

I'll be attending the next one and done event. It'll be my first in person MBA interview to date so I'm a bit nervous. The one and done event does offer quite an interesting opportunity compared to the regular process as there is less anxiousness from the waiting. I'm definitely excited!

"We take a holistic approach when judging a candidate"
"No single component of your application can make or break your admit"

I used to think such statements were a joke. Tippie's was my first interview of the season and I certainly was not at my best. After the interview, I told my friends and family that I screwed up and that I did not expect an admit. But as it turned out, not only did I get an admit but was also awarded a full ride!

I would concur with asif's summary of what you can expect in the interview. In fact, the Tippie interview was the only one I had to face a few strategic questions so far. But you just have to overcome your nervousness and just answer in a clear-headed manner - there is clearly no right answer or wrong answer for such questions. Your responses only let the adcom understand your thought process.

All the best to those of you who are going to face the interview!

Congrats everyone who got the Admits.
I also attended the One and Done event on 5th November and got an Admit. Not sure how we calculate the Full ride or 80% scholarship but here is what I got : GA and scholarship with total worth of 35k per year. I think the total cost for international student per year is like 42k including books, university fee and other misc stuff.

Now my concern is Tippie has really taken a hit in terms of the latest rankings : FT, BW, Us News. I have admits from ND and SMU with scholarships. But every student that I talk rates the program very highly. How does someone explain this discrepancy?

Alright bumping up this thread again. Who else has received admits from Tippie and is seriously considering joining? I realize its still early in the application cycle to make final choices but thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone is seriously considering TIppie.

I mean... I applied so of course I'm seriously considering it now that I've been accepted.

I still want to hear from other schools, though, and more importantly see if they are giving me any scholarship money. I think other schools provide a better career/job outlook for me, but at a higher cost. I'll take that financial aspect into account both long and short term when I decide as well as general career goals, location, etc etc. My other schools don't give notice of final decisions until mid to late December so I'll be waiting for a while.

What about you?

Well I guess in the same boat as you more or less. Hoping to get admits from better schools not that I would mind TIppie as a choice necessarily. From what I have heard TIppie seems to be a good enough school and there are not too many people who have bad things to say about it. The only drawback seems to be location and access to resources as University of Iowa in itself doesn't seem to be a great university. There are concerns and I wish someone could make sense of the rankings for me (75th in Businessweek while 51st in US news but I honestly wouldn't take Businessweek seriously considering they have W.P.Carey down in 67th). This is a discussion I want to continue having before I take the big leap unless a better school comes knocking in which case this discussion becomes obsolete.

Could someone throw more light on TIppie as a choice of B school compared to similar ranked schools such as say UIUC, Cox, Krannert etc?

Hey !! thats the great question..I had serious concerns as well when I accepted my Tippie admit and its rankings fell a lot after i got my visa.. Honestly I was very skeptical about this when I arrived.
But, we need to understand that there are several other factors that are included when they rank B-schools..For example, Tippie has a 3 month placement rate of 93% this year, which is higher than that of last year. There is an increase in placement but a drop in rankings. The number of factors that are used for ranking are huge and invariably Tippie may or may not meet certain criteria's that lead to the drop in rankings. As a current student this has in no way affected what Tippie as a brand could do to me to get me a job and the quality education that I get. I would recommend basing your decisions on accepting B-schools admits by judging if the college can help you attain your dream(a dream job or anything else). Talk to students from the college and see if the college can help you get where you want to be after 2 years of your MBA. If that satisfies you then consider the financial burden that will be imposed on you. Rankings are a good marketing tool and I do agree its a cause of concern, but as a student I again stress that this has not affected the way recruiters look at Tippie.
P.S. : I am not trying to advocate Tippie but trying to give you a view on this ranking situation as a student.

Hey ! If you can be more specific about your concerns on Tippie, I can try to answer your question :)
