I had my meeting with my Darden waitlist manager 2 weeks ago, and he told me that he felt he could vouch for me getting off the waitlist more compared to other applicants he talked to, and he said based on what he is reading from the application reviewers they wanted me to elaborate more on my why marketing, and to send my completed MBAmath transcript just for extra emphasis. I am skeptical if he says that to every waitlist candidate or not so trying not get too hopeful.
I think they are pretty straight with you. But getting off the waitlist ahead of other candidates he has spoken with is not the same as getting off the waitlist. Lots of other WL Managers and probably additional candidates he has yet to call. Also, you still need to provide the info application reviewers want in a way that puts you above others and the round 3 people. I would take it as a good sign and give some real thought as to the additional info you provide. Darden ( as with most of the not Sanford, MIT, Harvard schools) has a significant number of candidates who don't accept their offer - so I would say if you are at the top of the waitlist, you have a reasonable good shot at getting an offer. Good luck!
