My theory is that they work with replacements. For each accepted candidate there is one (or more) waitlisted candidates with a similar profile. If the accepted one declines they call the replacement - most likely a waitlsted can be the replacer of multiple accepted students. On top of that they cross check the new list of students to make sure all the dimensions are covered (GMAT, GPA, etc.) and tweek here and there.
So there is no rank to the waitlist, however the process of dinging/accepting from the waitlist is fairly fast.

Hope I'm the replacer of a HBS/GSB admit that prefers California or Boston over Philly.

Interesting theory, however, if this were the case, adcom would have to have an equal number of admits and WL'ers. It seems to me that there are far fewer people on the waitlist than have been admitted, though I have no way of verifying this.

I almost had a heart-attack about an hour ago...
I received a call that showed as "no number" on my cell..still have no idea what that was about!
Now that was 7 am in Philly...so it's most probably an unfortunate accident just to grill my nerves even more...

I think everything will come out the 12. Last year they let WLs know right after the deposit deadline but that was when it was 2 weeks before R3 notification date. They gave people a week or so to accept to better manage yield (prior to R3 notifications) This year with the deposit deadline just a few days before R3 notification dates they cant do that. So I think its the 12th. Facebook group shows 628 people so there has to be a decent number of slots open. Hopefully.

IMHO, it'll definitely be a ding party for many. I personally already wrote this off and have made arrangements at work for the upcoming year...but an acceptance would be one hell of a welcomed surprise. I'll be seeing some of you for the R1 cycle later this year...calling all Wharton 2014 Applicants!

I just cant deal with being kept on the waitlist. I want to know one way or another. Hopefully the facebook group is a good indicator of how many people have committed. And I pray we hear something early in the day and dont have to wait past 6 for the results.

I can definitely relate to that...
For internationals (myself included), a WL pretty much equals a ding at this point...except that it'd be worse because of the whole "What If" anxiety...
but I'm hoping at least some people are admitted off the WL...I simply don't want to feel that I had a shot, that I wasn't waiting for nothing!

In my eyes the main problem with the waitlist is that today is exactly like the R2 admission date in that I'm sitting at work, staring at my gmail waiting for news and not being productive at all.

Is anyone else finding it hard to concentrate today?

Is anyone else finding it hard to concentrate today?

Concentrate? the sum total of what i did today that's even remotely related to work could've been completed in 30 seconds...by a toddler...with much much more quality!
But it's ok...i'm quitting at the end of the month and they know i'm out of it already

More importantly, does anybody know if Wharton calls people with the good news?...i managed to miss a "no number" call a few minutes ago...now it could be:
1) Wharton
2) Ross
3) Some wretched telemarketer!

I'm hoping it's #1!
