Hi Everyone,
What are the different sections does Wharton look for in an MBA applicant? (Past academic, work exp, community impact, extra curriculars etc.) Any idea about the approx. weightages for different sections?

Hey,
I have work exp of 6 years but I have two doubts about it
1) I have worked in a small company for 6 years in Tier 2 City, will it affect my application
2) I started working before I completed my graduation, so those two years of exp before graduation will count

There are no specific weightages to each section. Generally, your profile should be well-rounded in each of the section. Its not about where you have to created impact but how much impact you were able to create where you worked or studied.

The college is not even started and we have started receiving support for internship. they have a Career management centre that helps students connect with recruiters and also organize workshops.

I don’t think Wharton has a 1-year program. There is an EMBA and a program for college grads but not a 1-year mba

I think the entire application can be broken down to acads (your gpa, academic awards etc.), work exp (impact you’ve created, professional awards, LORs, resume), extra curriculars/community impact. They evaluate your entire profile as a whole, so it’s not like one section is more important than the other. I think you have to ensure that your most important qualities (example: leadership, critical thinking, problem solving etc.) reflect through one or more of these sections.

It certainly is advantageous but you have to keep in mind your entire profile like your GMAT, undergrad, till what extent did you grow your company and impact it generated (monetarily or non-monetarily) and your justification of why getting an MBA at this time is right.

1) I think as long as you can show that you’ve done meaningful work and can also explain why that work is meaningful, you should be good. It’s all about showing what impact you’ve created and why it’s relevant

2) I don’t think those 2 years will be counted as full time work ex, you can list it as an internship though

I do have a company that does about $50k on a monthly basis and was looking to get an MBA to help me grow myself as well as the company.

nice to hear that. You’ll have to mention specific resources which will help you grow your company and how you’re going to utilize those resources.
